Following an early announcement from Peugeot and Mitsubishi , Peugeot officially took the wraps off its forthcoming mass-market electric vehicle. Officially dubbed the i0n, the zero-emissions vehicle is based on Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV.

At just 3.48 meters in length, the i0n is a perfect fit for the crowded streets of Europe. A turning radius of just 4.5 meters also ensures i0n drivers will be able to get out of any tight spots. The i0n features four-doors and seating for four.

Power for the i0n is provided by an electric motor generating 64 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque, giving the EV a top speed of 80 mph. A lithium-ion battery pack supplies enough juice to give the i0n an 80 mile range. A full charge can be had in six hours, with a fast charge system giving an 80 percent recharge in just thirty minutes.

The i0n will also feature a safety system similar to General Motors’ OnStar. In the event of a crash, Peugeot’s “localized communication unit” will be able to alert local authorities.

Pricing has yet to be released but the Peugeot i0n will be available for European fleet and retail sales at the end of next year.

Peugeot has not released interior details of the i0n – the Frankfurt Motor Show vehicle (pictured) featured blacked-out windows.
