Early look: Peugeot RC… hybrid concept

08/20/2008, 11:22 AM

By Drew Johnson

October’s Paris Motor Show is quickly approaching and since it’s on the French automakers’ home turf, they definitely don’t want to disappoint. Peugeot apparently has some big plans for the show as it has released a series of teaser images of its RC concept set to debut in Paris.

Although Peugeot is calling the concept the RC, that actually isn’t its full name (which will be announced at the Paris show). However, Peugeot says the new concept is the missing GT link between the RC Diamond and RC Spade concepts shown earlier this decade.

The newest RC concept will focus on both performance and the environment, and is powered by a 313 horsepower hybrid powertrain.

The car’s styling definitely has a healthy dose of sport, with the front end reminding us of Audi’s R8. In profile, the RC looks like a four-door coupe in the same vein as the Mercedes CLS.

Check back for more details when the RC concept hits the Paris stage on October 2nd.

So they’re teaser images of a teaser car? The production version isn’t going to look like that once the bean-counters get done with it. Why bother?

Why doesn’t anyone make a diesel hybrid? Or is there one out there? It seems like it would make a lot of sense for a hybrid.

The only diesel-electric vehicles I’ve heard of are train locomotives.

VW is testing a Twin Drive Golf right now… it is diesel electric hybrid. I think the diesels in small cars are already efficient enough as it is… adding the hybrid powertrane and all the associated systems and weight won’t really increase mileage that much.

It’s a great looking car and it appears the Peugeot designers were inspired by the Audi R8 when designing the RC.

R8 ripoff.
If theres one thing i cant stand its plagiarism. Id doesn’t matter how you try to guise or sell it, its still a bastard knock-off. Come now Peugeot, where’s all that Lion Pride?

Definately a great looking car, R8 ripoff I think not. I still think the 908RC is beautiful to bad its a concept.
