Last December, Leftlane reported that Peugeot had confirmed the arrival of a 208-based, Juke-sized crossover in 2012.

The troubled automaker has just revealed a concept at the Beijing Motor Show called the Urban Crossover. It is essentially a thinly-disguised preview of the brand’s upcoming Juke-fighter.

Aesthetically speaking, the Urban Crossover is a mixture of several Peugeot design elements. The floating grille is inspired by the automaker’s current design language, the headlights are taken from Peugeot’s recent concept cars, and the C-shaped taillights are an unmistakable nod to the 208 hatchback.

Peugeot says that the Urban Crossover is a global car that was designed jointly by designers based in Shanghai, China, in Sao Paolo, Brazil, and in Paris, France.

To obtain a more car-like ride, the Urban Crossover rides on the same platform as the aforementioned 208. It measures 162 inches long and 68 inches wide, dimensions that put it at the more compact end of the crossover segment.

Peugeot has not released any technical details or photos of the interior.

The production vehicle that is previewed by the Urban Crossover is called the A94 internally, but if Peugeot stays true to tradition it will be dubbed the 2008 when it hits the market.

The 2008 will mark a major milestone in Peugeot’s history. The automaker has dabbled in off-roaders for the last thirty years, but the 2008 will be the first one that it has designed by itself from the ground up.

The arrival of the 2008 also indicates that Peugeot will not develop a station wagon of the 208. Both the 206 and the 207 have been available as station wagons, but neither model has seen any success.

The production version of the Urban Crossover will be presented at the Paris Motor Show next fall. Peugeot has confirmed that production will begin next December in Mulhouse, France.
