Photo: Mystery Ford concept

07/26/2006, 1:42 PM

By admin

A mysterious clay model of what looks to be a Ford concept sedan appeared in the latest episode of the automaker’s “Bold Moves” documentary. The car has similarities to the Iosis and Visos concepts, but does not appear to be either car. It also appears to have a lower roofline and more abrupt c-pillar than the forthcoming 2007 Mondeo, though we can’t rule out the possibility of it being that car. What could this car be? Full image after the jump…

I hate to say this, but the front end hints at a next generation Probe…..

Even the thought of it scares me.

If it is a new Probe and the design is cool (in their eyes) the t-shirts worn by representatives on its debut will probably read “probe this.”

I would say maybe a mustang…or some sort of four door coupe for lincoln. I also read that ford was thinking about adding a 2 door fusion…this could be a concept for that as well, but looking at the shape, I doubt it.

That is a lot of front end. Maybe modified Volvo chassis with a straight 7.

My guess is Mustang too. The overall shape looks similar to the Camaro concept and considering that it will be in production around the same time the new Mustang is out they could be gearing up up a for a fight.

It looks like that shelby concept from a couple of years ago. That chrome one that got cancelled… I can’t remember the name.

Well if Ford is moving away from Retro styling for the next Mustang then perhaps this photo could be it.I think that would be the wrong move for Ford as the Camaro is clearly retro and Mustang has sold well on it’s retro styling. So I’m guessing it’s not the new Mustang. Perhaps its a Mercury Coupe or perhaps another Ford Probe based on the Fusion sedan. But then that does not make sense either as I thought the Fusion Coupe was simply a 2dr version of the 4dr.I have no idea.

It looks a lot like that R3Fl3X concept that they promised would find a way into production. Whatever it is though, it looks really good, and would be good to influence all of Ford’s rather mediocre looking line up.

I see a suicide door sedan…. purely concept. Not sure where this would fit into the production lineup other than a replacement for the T/C, crown vic.

I can’t imagine that this would be a new mustang. It’s way too big, has none of the styling que’s, and would move the ’stang in a completely different direction. This model looks nothing like a pony car.

Perhaps it’s just a sytling exercise at one of thier studios.

More than a Mustang, it looks like a ‘4 door coupe’ lincoln. The wheel flairs look ridiculous though.

that isnt good if it is a mustang, it doesnt look sporty enough, and if the mustang is supposed to be like muscle car, (even though it isnt), it looks to round and girly for a muscle car

I hve owned almost every mustang body type that is not a mustang too small in the back for it to be a mustang unless they make it fwd its some sort of coupe though maybe an aston or that one volvo witht he fold up doors

That isn not a mustang. I dont care what any of yall say. That is a FWD vehicle and the next redesign of the mustang will be based on the s197 frame. Unless you can use that frame as a FWD. I do not thing the 08′ will be a frame up redesign. Plus the cabin space on the s197 is in the center like all the previous Mustangs and that one has the cabin more aft of the center of gravity. This may be a new cougar or im kinda liking the probe idea. I just want it heard that that thing is not a mustang. If it is ford they are going to loose what ever profits they found with this 05 retro redesign. The probe idea is on the right track since it Resembles an RX8. Maybe its a new MAzda design. Mazda is ford a ford company right?

Jay, The clay model uses the same design language as the Reflex concept, but it clearly a sedan as was stated in the article at the top of the page. Quite frankly, it is just a bit boring.

The proportions look nice. Ford can regain lost glory and market share by using this car and proclaim it as the new Taurus because the Ford Fusion and the Five Hundred simply isn’t good enough to attract import buyers back to the domestic makers.

It’s the Reflex concept. The episode is about the future of FEUL. The Reflex is a diesel hybrid that achieves 65 mpg. Duh.

the car has RWD sedan proportions and has none of the design languade of the reflex concept, i don’t know why you would think it does unless you are blind. The fenders, beltline, overhang, and greenhouse aren’t even in the same ballpark… it is probably the rumored RWD sedan that ford was supposed to be working on.
