Last weekend marked the end to the current season of the American Le Mans Series, with a final race at Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA. As racing enthusiasts will know, the LMP1 and LMP2 championships had already been clinched by the Audi and Porsche teams, respectively.

But the GT2 and GT1 titles were still up for grabs, and the Ferrari and Corvette teams ultimately won the titles. Photographer Alan Bergfeld was on hand at the event, taking seventeen photos — including paddock and pre-race grid pictures. Gallery after the jump…

the R10 TDI is amazing
and definatly had a significant role in diesel power’s growing popularity.

I don’t think the R10 has had any role in the popularity of diesel, and I like Audi. 97% of people have no clue what ALMS is, much less what the R10 is, even if they have run a few commercials.

On an unrelated note, I like the idea of LLN coverage of ALMS, even if it is just pictures.

I don’t think the R10 has had a visible impact, yet. Racing technology always takes a bit to trickle down into the showrooms. It will have it’s impact, in time. And I can’t wait to see what comes out!

Audi is going to have a version of the R10’s engine for the Q7 http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/09/11/2007-audi-q7-v12-tdi-unveiled/

If you have seen the R10 in person you would know how awesome it is, and like youngm7 said I dont think anybody knows what that car is nor what Le Mans is. Right now Audi is using the R8’s technology in their cars, not the R10

The R8’s were amazing, the R10’s are mindblowing. The sound at full speed – wow. PIR is I think the smallest venue to hose ALMS, but every year my friends and I don’t miss it. Beauty here in Portland is Pit/Paddock passes are easy to obtain, and you get right up there and get to watch green flag pits. So fun. I’ve got my own collection of fine photography of ALMS races of years past here at PIR. Sideways S7 Saleens, Astin Martins and Ferrari’s going after each other. It’s the best kind of racing. You guys are right however, yer average hick in Kentucky has no clue what ALMS is all about…

I’m the lucky guy who got to attend and take the photos. The R10s are amazingly quiet! Kind of ironic since the primary complaint about early passenger diesels was the noise. One other note, take a close look at the ‘Vette. It was the only car there that you caould actually see the brake glow in the daytime!

The R10’s are quiet for a race car, but have a very unique exhaust note. You could certainly pick them out by ear. I’d love to attend a Laguna Seca ALMS event! That had to be great.

It was

great, but I’m envious of your pit pass! Paddock is easy enough, but pits is a non-starter without photo credential. (All my shots are from public access.)

I wish I could just post some shots here, but alas. VAB13, if you’d like to see some shots from PIR email me at yosemite42@yahoo.com … and guys, go easy on sending me spam and viruses! Thanks…
