Pininfarina — the go-to design house for Ferrari and others — has released an image of its concept set to bow at the Geneva Motor Show last month. Dubbed the Sintesi, the show car will not only be stylish but will also showcase some new active safety systems.
“This concept car is the synthesis of our values, of the love for our work and our passion for innovation, of beauty driven by functionality, of sportiness and elegance. However, Sintesi isn’t only the expression of Pininfarina design; it also embraces innovative technologies that allow us to explore new typologies of mobility, active safety and packaging solutions” said Lowie Vermeersch, the lead designer of the project.
One of the technologies the Sintesi concept will debut is a system Pininfarina calls Clancast. The Clancast system talks with other cars on the road to communicate traffic patterns, eliminating the need for traffic lights and other street signs.
From the sketches released earlier this year, we can also infer that the car will use a hydrogen fuel-cell and will have seating for four.
The show car was penned under Lowie Vermeersch — the company’s head of design — and is the first concept Pininfarina has shown in three years.
Check back for more images and details after the Sintesi’s official unveiling in March.

this should be interesting…cant wait…
my heart is already pounding at the mention of pininfarina
cant wait to see what they come up with
yet another unrealistic pipe dream for myself
Hopefully it’s something revolutionary compared to the Enzo.
That’s garish.
Anything that starts with the word ‘Sin’ has to be hot.
pininfarina, home of hot designs such as the chevy aveo and the suzuki forenza.
Beautiful, not Alfa but very close in sexiness.
it looks really good from what i can see. cant wait to see the show pics.
Tastefully futuristic as ever. But otherwise, so what ?
It looks like a futuristic version of the early NSX concept, the HSC
looks exactly like the maserati birdcage 75th concept. pininfarina is just using their old designs again.
That thing looks like that Lamborghini Portofino Concept from back when Chrysler owned Lamborghini…..
To me, Pininfarina stands for grace, excellence all around. Subtle style. This is too “hardcore” for them. They need more elegance, less “four door going to the front lines in Iraq,” more “I’m better than you, and no, I don’t have to try.”
I wonder if this is another one of Jason’s pieces. Looks a lot like his style. Early sketches of the P 4/5 were equally eccentric.
EDIT: Read through the whole article, and found that it isn’t penned by Jason Castriota.
“pininfarina, home of hot designs such as the chevy aveo and the suzuki forenza.”
Don’t forget the Ssangyong Rexton…
This looks really interesting. I’d love to see the final concept.
The front end looks like a carp (fish) with its mouth open.
Lame.
Looky here Mr. Fancitalianman, here in America we can’t have cars that swallow strollers whole. We like our babies.
Truthfully, the above car has a waist, which is sexy.
^ That comment made my day.
So much for the only-GM-cars-are-slaves-to-the-wind-tunnel claim.
looks almost station-wagonish - well….. for the future
And i re-iterate.
That thing looks like that Lamborghini Portofino Concept from back when Chrysler owned Lamborghini…..
Very 70’s futurish. Looks like something Bertone would have made back in the day. I like it.
So much bias in the favor of pininfarina, which I can understand.
They’ve designed the majority of the best looking vehicles on the roads today and in the past, and I would certainly love to work for them, or own their products.
But this concept is pretty damned ugly.
Reminds me a little of the Honda Advanced Sports Car Concept or whatever the hell it was called. The NSX design that had to be redrawn…
I don’t like the front as much as I did in the beginning, and neither does it look as sleek as it did in the sketches.
I’m curious how much interior space this new layout will provide though. It seems expensive, very easy to break, heavier, and the most dissapointing, there won’t be such a thing as a “garage” mechanic any more, and probably not just a normal garage anymore either.
So, um, what the HELL would this be for IF it were built? It’s pretty much a sedan shaped like a wagon because it doesn’t look like you could fit much more into the trunk area than a standard sedan. Not sure if I like or or not yet.
How the hell do you clean the inside of the window at the outer edge of the dash toward the hood?
F451, it’s ain’t easy, but whoever gonna own it will not do it either. Servants will manage.
This layout makes alot of sense. Something MO would’nt understand but Audi probably would!
These sketches are nice, but is this going to see production? I thought pininfarina was a design house. Who’s going to build it?
I don’t like it, am I the only one??
