The luxury Genesis and Equus sedans both received a generous helping of gears when Hyundai updated them with eight-speed automatic transmissions for 2012, but the Korean automaker is apparently not content to stop there.
In fact, sources at Bloomberg are suggesting that Hyundai might just speed the nine-speed all together and go straight for a double-digit 10-speed transmission as soon as 2014!
The sources say that Hyundai Motor Group president Park Seong Hyon even said the transmission will likely be used in the aforementioned sedans, which both mark the best the brand has to offer.
If the report ends up being true, Hyundai will have moved forward in transmission technology at a blistering pace previously unthinkable in the automotive industry.
While Lexus’s LS was the first to make use of an eight-speed unit, one must wonder if Lexus – or anyone – will try and one-up Hyundai given the questionable value of gears beyond 10 speeds in normal driving.
