Defying common sense, the law and even science, an Iowa man was recently arrested for driving with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .627. For those keeping track, that's almost eight times the state's legal limit.

Police officers responded to calls of a car driving erratically on the night of July 29 only to find a vehicle parked in a resident's lawn. Behind the wheel was 24-year-old Justin Clark, who was so intoxicated that he couldn't walk or speak coherently. When police asked Clark what day it was, he responded, "Three, but now it is four."

Clark blew a .486 at the scene, but a later blood test conducted by the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics found Clark's BAC to actually be .627. The legal limit in Iowa is .08.

"It's just amazing," Police Chief Jim Warkentin told the Iowa Press Citizen. "Most people don't make it above .3 "" they end up passing out."

Warkentin was also shocked that Clark was even able to survive the ordeal. The Police Chief noted that the police academy teaches that anyone with a BAC over .4 is "clinically dead."
