I got a chance to drive the G6 GT coupe yesterday and I was fairly impressed. Not only did the car look stunning but it drove very good as well. The 201hp engine had plenty of power for everyday driving and the road handling was great too. The cabin seemed to be insolated very well from the road and offered a good quality ride without being too soft. My only complaint is the interior that surrounds the rear passengers was over-looked big time, while the front had abundant soft-touch surfaces the back was like plastics on parade, the vert also lacked the double cup holders found in the rear seat in the coupe (what gives?).

I drove a G6 convertible yesterday, and I was impressed. With the top up it had very low road noise. The 3500 201 HP engine did fine, I looked at one with the bigger engine today, but didn’t drive it, it didn’t have the options we wanted. With the top down (one button movement, without manual latches up front. It had much leg for a convertible. I haven’t been so comfortable (6’4″) since our 97 Saab 900 convertible. I think pushing the XM radio is a mistake, but the adjustable pedal height on the GT (not available on the GTP) is great when you are over a foot taller than your wife!

I don’t really like GM, but this is really good news. I would love to see GM turn around and start making really good quality cars. I don’t mind switching companies for a better product.

That and the Sky is a hot car.

The Pontiac G6 is actually ok. I sure wish that they offered a high-feature DOHC V6 as an engine option to make it really world competitive.

So how hard is it for GM to sell out 20,000 or so convertibles? I think Chrysler moves more POS Sebring convertibles then GM will build of these 3. I realize GM will take any good news and spin it to the end of the earth, but this is just more GM PR BS.

For one thing, the G6 is not a sunfire clone, seeing as how it’s got a hard top.

And for another, all you bashers sound the same. At least try some different lines. The quality is improving, even if all you clones don’t believe it. Slowly but surely.

You guys are haters, I’ll be the first to say most gm cars are ugly, but the G6 is solid, it has grown on me, especially the coupe and convertible, I’m a stricty european buyer but have given thought to the G6 convert – who’d a thought. Now keep that designer and fire the rest of the Pontiac designers, and tell them they suck.

Pretty or not this car is a turd. Wanna good laugh, check out some guy named “Domestication” over at C and G who had all sorts of problems with his. I think he still loved the car but it was a POS from what it sounds like.

I know cars plenty. The Pontiac G6 is deserving of a design award because of the body stlye. Highest honours. I’m thinking of the black two door coupe. I have not seen the cab as of yet.

The same could have been said about the Metro convertible back in the 90′s, doesn’t mean its true. Pontaic just couldn’t let the Sunfire conv. go so they rebadged it to this.

This whole idea is like the children’s story THE EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES. You are telling people what is good and what is not good, as if they are progranmmable robots. People are snapping these cars up like hotcakes because THEY FEEL GREAT TO DRIVE! I totally care about quality. Any car built anywhere today is a mind bending marvel of engineering compared to a horse and buggy that was used 75 years ago. A new (black) G6 hardtop coupe is preferable to own and operate because it LOOKS GOOD. For you to attack GM quality is ridiculous. Rental companies use them by the shiploads because of reliability. Basically BMW chassis and drivetrain, ride ,quality, etc. is the best of the best or whatever, but their new body styles are so gut wrenchingly atrocious, I refuse to buy one.I pity the drive train engineers at BMW.

The G6 is a very good style/design…just incredible. I’d buy one because it looks so nifty. BMW doesn’t exist anymore. Bangle didn’t respect purity of design. Pre-owned BMW exists, though…for awhile.

#5 GM deserves every lick and bash it gets. I am old enough to have watched the decline. Roger Smith destroyed anything good they had.

Making cars that are decently styled with moderate performance is fine, but its not enough. You can’t drive around in a G6 and think that you are in a quality vehicle. The brakes are mushy, the fit and finish is poor. Noise, Vibration and Harshness levels are pathetic. After all these years they havn’t figured out how to build a decent copy of a Honda Accord three generations ago.

They may be doing better than they were, but not much. We are talking about GM here, not some poor company. They can build cars as good as they want. They just choose not too.

Lower volume cars tend to hold their value a lot better (i.e. Mini Cooper, Lexus GS430). Higher resale value is a positive thing for brand imagine.

You guys are losing credibility with your constant bashing on anything Detroit does.
Maybe the lower volume car like this is just how they are going to improve the over all quality? Makes sense to me.
And what exactly do you expect the company spokesperson to say about selling out the model?
“Well, ya we sold all of them but just because we only made a few and it’s remarkable because we build such crappy cars to begin with you know?”
It’s a good looking car that has proved dependable and is decently styled with reasonable performance.
It’s not a 911, but it sure isn’t an Aztec either.
Lighten up a little. I am not a huge supporter of US cars either, but they are certainly doing far, far better than they were only 10-15 years ago.

That is a lot of bullshit. They bild a limit quantity and sell out. That’s tough. Add all three together and Ford probably still sells more Mustang convertibles.

What is with all the statements coming out of there? Stop with the PR wagon and focus on what needs to be done…build decent cars across the board.

Well it’s spring time, so if your convertible doesn’t sell then there must be something seriously wrong… This is a positive thing for sure, but a couple of low volume cars isn’t what the General needs to right the ship.

BTW, the Solstice/Sky, decent offerings IMO. The G6, that thing must be going for cheap money because it is a horrible place to spend any time in. The interior is the cheapest, has the lowest grade build and materials in the GM stable at the moment. That thing has Pontiac Sunfire 2.0 written all over it.
