Revealed as a concept at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show, the Pontiac G6 Sedan is built upon GM's Epsilon platform (shared with other GM cars like the Cadillac BLS, Saab 9-3 and Saturn Aura). Eventually introduced as a 2005 model, the G6 Sedan replaced the Grand Am sedan in Pontiac's lineup.

For 2008, the G6 Sedan comes in four trim lines - the G6 Value Leader (VL), the G6 Base Sedan, the G6 GT Sedan and the G6 GXP Sedan. The G6 VL and G6 Base both use an Ecotec 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with 164 horsepower tied to a 4-speed automatic. As the name implies, the Value Leader is the lowest cost G6 Sedan available. The G6 GT comes standard with a 219hp, 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a 4-speed automatic that offers driver shift control. Riding on a standard sport suspension, the GT features 17' Chrome-Tech alloy wheels with optional 18' wheels.

The G6 Sedan offers a wide variety of standard and optional safety equipment. GM's Onstar Services, which includes AccidentAssist, crash notification, fuel station location, hands-free calling, concierge services, turn-by-turn navigation and vehicle diagnostics, is available. In addition to Onstar, the G6 Sedan includes a standard traction control system, standard front and side impact air bags and standard antilock disc brakes at all four corners. GM's StabiliTrak Dynamic Control System is available as an option on the GT Sedan.

For 2008, the G6 Sedan offers a variety of optional packages depending on the trim line: a Sun and Sound package that includes a 6-disc CD changer and a power sunroof; a premium package that includes items like leather seats, heated front seats and a remote vehicle starter system; a Sport Package that includes upgraded wheels and the 3.5-liter V6; and a GT Preferred Package that includes items like a remote vehicle starter system, floor mats and steering-wheel mounted audio controls.
