Forget cloning Aussie cars pontiac, they have made some really impressive designs before, the last generation Firebird was a work of art and more unique than any other car on the road, they made a really neat concept in 1997, called the rageous (http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z755/Pontiac_Rageous.aspx)
that really captured the style of the firebird with some more modern amenities and more of a hip multipurposeness to it, If they tweaked the design of that, and maybe toned down some of the utility functions of it it would sell like crazy, its almost like a vibe and a trans am had a baby. maybe call it G7 and make it weigh around 3000 lbs instead of the almost 4000 lbs of the G8, throw in the Displacment on demand 5.3L 303 HP engine from the retiring grand prix GXP and adjust it for rear wheel drive and you’ve got a relatively fuel efficient cool looking fast as hell car that in the end shouldn’t really be that expensive to build since you already have alot of the needed parts

Autonut, we’re still about a month away from the Pontiac G8 even being available in showrooms. That’s why you haven’t seen any of them on the road yet. I don’t know i’m assuming they’re taking pre-orders though?

This car looks just bloody beautiful! It gets the heart pounding more than anything GM currently offers (except maybe the Vette). With the performance raves the G8 is getting, along with its almost perfect interior, this coupe could finally be the car that gets lifelong German car buyers to come back home. Will GM have the guts to do it right without letting the accountants and marketing “experts” turn it into an Aztec? Bob Lutz, a car lover, will make sure they do. And GM will sell every one they make, with no incentives. Do it now!

Pontiac, in my opinion, has a decent schnooze. Once they try to change it (Aztec) and it wasn’t great success. Rolls keep the same honker for the past 40 or 60 years. BMW is fooling around with theirs and not to the better end; Benz is complete disaster and Audi is celebrating Jewish heritage whom they did not succeed eradicating under Fuhrer. My vote is for Pontiac and for it honker to stay as it is: familiar and sort of good looking.

OK Axe, maybe I’m just being picky but have you noticed that today the nose is everything. There seems to be more attention paid to that one detail of brand identity than almost any other styling cue. I never said I was in love with the nose, rather merely relieved GM has chosen not to alienate those who may still be loyal to Pontiac any further.

Any of you critiquing this because of the trademark Pontiac nose need to have your heads examined. Gawd forbid the masses should be able to immediately identify the marque of a new domestic model that piques their attention. I’ve said many times a large part of the current malaise Detroit finds itself in is due to its decades long fascination with changing nomenclature with virtually every model cycle. So if they must keep changing the names, at least cut them some slack when they leave something we recognize.

I can’t believe I am saying it but it much classier coupe then BMW 6. Somewhere Bungle went sideway with Bommer, but this one looks great. It is better looking then A5 or large Benz coupe (actually those are fugly from my point of view). It is much better looking then any existing Caddy coupe as well. Very good proportions and symmetry in a coupe.
10 years ago when gs was $1/gallon tis car would be joy to own. Today, not so much. Another point is Australian reliability. Does anyone aware if it’s good or mediocre?
Now the last question: popularity of G8 sedan? I haven’t seen one on the road yet. I wish I had supplier in college as good as writers of those articles.

I couldn’t agree with you more carguy70. Seeing it’s Holdens/G8’s underpinnings and design Pontiac would make a big mistake if they called it the GTO (like they did with the 04-06 GTO). But yeah use the Camaro’s Zeta chassis and then come out with real GTO. However while HT (Hard top) would fit well in the Pontiac G8 lineup name I think just G8 coupe would work.

Like the consept build it as true HARD TOP for both Holden and Pontiac. And like the Ute version for Pontiac is called G8 ST call it the G8 HT for HARD TOP! This should NOT be a new GTO but a G8 Hard Top Coupe! A GTO should be a streached Camaro with modern/retro GTO styling and no less then 500HP!

Not at all… I just picked up my CTS sedan and took the two year lease to make sure I can get the CTS Coupe when it is supposed to be available. I like the looks of the Holden/Pontiac, but I am not interested in a G-8 Sedan over a CTS Sedan and the same holds true for the Coupe versions.

I would have no problem with Pontiac if they just took the people’s word into account a little more like they didn’t do with the GTO. As for my name it consists of the word feint as in the technique used in many aspects of driving, and apex which I assume I don’t have to explain; the parentheses in the middle represent a curve on the road.

The issue I have is that you are failing to understand that I like it and you don’t and finding fault in the design without understanding your own dislike for it makes you, at least appear to be, a neophyte.

I find the Holden 60 a bit too typical and even boring all over except the bumper which is cool but errs to much on Mercedes designs.

Overall, I find the G8 Coupe (G7) very graceful and very attractive. But If you hadn’t noticed The G8 Coupe has everything on it the Holden 60 does, except the side exhaust, which IS NOT legal in all 50 States. Besides it makes the car look more adult, less nostalgic, less “boy-racer” anyway.

Sorry, but at the end of it all, I find the G8 Coupe more tasteful.

I’m just that age. Sorry.

**** even LLN’s renderings of the “Pontiac G8 Coupe” are probably close to what an actual Pontiac model would look like. Whether they called this the Firebird (They won’t because of the Camaro) or GTO, or even G8 coupe, the only thing I would say is where can I put my deposit?

Don’t give the U.S. market a bunch of CAFE excuses or a rebadged Holden Ute. Just give us this beautiful coupe.

What a great 1-2-3 punch it would be for Pontiac if GM would follow through on giving this division the following three Zeta based products:
1) G8 sedan (Mission Accomplished!)
2) G8 wagon (Reconsider This!: A Pontiac car with greater utility)
3) G8 coupe (JUST BRING IT!: This product will revitalize Pontiac and make it relevant in the market again)

Give the Holden Ute to its rightful division: Chevrolet!

On the GTO,

We had this discussion before. The Name “GTO” can still be reserved for a top-tier machine in the line-up. Drop in a 500Hp VETTE V8 and tune the suspensiona nd whatever else. and there you go.

Everything else it a G7 (G8 Coupe).
