what a shame, so many people didn’t even know it was comming out, I for one was already to buy one, and had at least 30 others to follow, not now, Honda or Toyo now will get my dollors, GM almost had there stuff togeather. I have been a loyal GM owner for over 40 years, and it makes me sad to have to go to Japan and take more dollors out of the US. I guess I will be looking into import from downunder to get a UTE, I’m guna die with a new ELCAMINO one way or another. Another lost GM suporter.

I agree with this killing. They would have lost money on this project. Just not a large enough market for one to justify it’s existence.

I have a feeling that Pontiac’s future “sporty niche” will be more of an entry premium position in B-P-G made up of small hatchback models. If this means that Pontiac will be selling the next gen Corsa/Astra hatchbacks, then it won’t be so bad. I would prefer to see Pontiac turned into a RWD affordable performance “niche” brand, but I seriously doubt that will happen anytime soon, if ever. If anyone is still hanging on to hope that it will happen based on GM’s recent comments about a sporty niche future for Pontiac, please keep in mind that the press release for the upcoming Aveo based G3 hatchback stated that the car was a sporty, fun to drive addition to Pontiac’s lineup. It seems that GM has a completely different mindset as to what “sporty” and “fun to drive” means than the rest of the general public. GM’s version of “sporty” seems to revolve around putting a twin-nostril grille on everything and proclaiming it is sporty. It’s amazing how that twin-nostril grille alone can transform an otherwise mundane vehicle into a sexy driving machine. How impressive and magical is that?…

As far as the cancellation of this particular vehicle for the U.S.: I feel bad for those who planned on buying one and are truly disappointed, but I can’t say that I am one of them. I wasn’t particularly enthused to see that GM planned on including it in Pontiac’s lineup. Chevrolet was the proper home for it.

The ute would have been interesting, but I want the Commodore wagon.

Those who somehow claim the ute is ‘ugly’ have obviously never seen one in person.

You won’t see any more Monaro-ish coupes anyway, the Aussies don’t buy ‘em.

The idea of a pickup car was repulsive any way. The should have done a “G8/Monaro Coupe” again as GTO. Not likely it would happen though the way things are looking for the broke General.

Image builders don’t come from super cars like the Ford GT, or specialty cars like the Plymouth Prowler, Chevrolet SSR or this Pontiac. They come from the main line. That’s what they need to focus on.

I would have loved to see increased development in a vehicle like the Pontiac Grand Prix. I could even point out the problems with it; a chassis that would is now 26 years old, front wheel drive and only a… four speed… automatic… available. Once you got in one, the interior screamed “try harder!!!” I’m not saying they would have sold more with a rear wheel drive Grand Prix, but the outreach would be huge to both current owners and prospective buyers unlike this.

Better yet, they should have kept cars like the Grand Am, which just needed some refining. I’d actually still consider them sporty little cars, only problems were the interior, minor exterior parts and a new platform (the N-body when cancelled was 22 years old)

But hey, they were content with bringing the price down lower and lower to try to “attract” more buyers. That obviously failed.

Please tell me they are still making a coupe. Seriously, these things are what put GM where it is now. Maybe this wouldn’t sell well, but the word of mouth alone and the knowledge of GM making these cars gives them a reputation to build a future on, not G6’s or G3’s. You make these cars to build the brand for the long term, not the short term they are obsessed with.

The idea of a car based truck still has merit, but not like this. Something in the spirit of the old Dodge Rampage or Rabbit pickup would appeal to a far broader audience. 1115 is probably right in that most of the people drooling over the G8 ST probably couldn’t afford the gas or insurance never mind the car itself.

We need the a G8 wagon instead. That’d sell better AND fit in better with Pontiac’s brand statement than a Pontiac coupe-pickup sold next to two GMC pickups.

Oh, and we need the Holden Caprice to replace the current Lucerne.

Thank goodness! That car was hideous. The G8 and the G8 couple are great muscle cars and are constructed as such. This thing was just…I don’t know. The side shots make it look like a triangle. But nonetheless, thank you Pontiac for killing this car.
