No-one seems to have noted that this wagon is RWD - a Pontiac prototype would be LHD (I've seen the original GTO prototype in the museum in Echuca in Oz, it was LHD, as was the Chevy Lumina prototype for Saudi they had there too).
However, I think it's reasonable to assume that it will come eventually as a G8 wagon but right now it's so much more likely that this is just standard extreme cold weather testing - it can't be done here in Australia at the best of times let alone this time of year (we've had 40 degree daytime temps lately but it's the Celsius grade so well over 100 Fahrenheit). Why else would they also have a Maloo ute there too - there is no real talk that there will be HSV equivalent Pontiacs despite lots of wishful GXP thinking on the forums..
Of course the Brits have always liked sporty wagons so maybe they are investigating sending some to sell alongside the VRX8 Vauxhall sedans?

Dodge's apparent inability to sell the Magnum (one of my favorite vehicles, btw) is more likely due the the fact that its wagon utility was severly compromised by the low roofline, and the need to cut the rear liftgate halfway up the roof to allow anything larger than a storage tote to fit through the opening! The lack of competition from Dodge, Mazda, Subaru etc. as mentioned above should make bringing the G8 wagon an even better move for GM by the time it arrives.

The Holden Wagon is a very handsoem vehicle. Looks much more expensive than it is and if Pontiac gets it then that can only mean good things for Pontiac :)

Risky considering how Dodge is cancelling the magnum. No doubt the quality of this will be much better, but still. I guess you have to take a chance, maybe some people will get out of their Tahoes for this?

Gentlemen (and Ladies).... You just saw the replacement for the G8 ST/Holden UTE that was in the news earlier this summer. I heard from the people I know within GM said that they already cancelled the UTE program over and instead are bringing a wagon variant for the G8. However even this isn't still confirmed with Chrysler recently announcing they are cancelling the Magnum. I guess we'll see.

Well, GM gets all the Magnum sales now since the Magnum was cancelled (big mistake for Chrysler - there are so many other things that you could have canceled)

rsg and snork, read the damn article before posting something completely stupid. It's states that it IS in fact a "Holden Commodore SS wagon wearing camouflage". Unless, of course, you can't read, then it's ok.

This could work for GM, IF Gm does not try to sell it as a straight replacement for SUVs but rather a very smart alternative to them. Don't expect to sell 100K units a year, just keep rolling and make converts slowly and steadily.

"The Magnum was underdesigned - a truck nose does not belong on a car. In Europe they offered the Chysler 300C as a wagon. Very nice."

Actually in Europe they offer a Magnum with the front-end off a 300C. It's still a Magnum, they just took that "truck nose" off it, and called it a "300 Touring".

From GM's perspective it's got little to lose by bringing over the Wagon. Same with the Ute.

There's little added cost in producing them, as it doesn't matter a great deal whether it rolls out as a Wagon or a Sedan since all the engineering work was paid for by the Aussie version. Any others they can sell is just gravy. And since the Holden plant is so underutilized, you can actually drive the price down on the others for every vehicle you make.

While true that the Wagon market in the US is VERY small, pretty much the entire market south of $40,000 is gone with the departure of the Legacy Wagon, the Mazda6 Wagon, the Malibu MAXX, and the Magnum pretty much all at the same time. While it's true that the market couldn't bear that many models at once, there's certainly some potential for a single model to do at least modest sales when it's pretty much the sole available product.

I guess the only thing they really need to test is new crash bumpers.

Hopefully they don't overproduce this like Chrysler did the Magnum.

corvette, the car above it is a Holden Commodore sedan...you can see it in the Camaro spy pics article.

And yeah, it does have Holden badges on it, I dunno why LLN would assume it's a G8 wagon other than to spread an unsubstantiated rumor.

Fletch, I am with you, but GM aint. They don't have diesel smaller then 6L V8 certified for US. Too precise to manufacture. It may come to Europe that way, I think GM has 2.8L diesel in Opel lineup or plans to have one.

in the second picture there's a white car above it that looks relatively similar why couldn't they take any pictures of that car so we can get a comparison. that aside if they get their marketing right with this car they could make it move.

You would think GM would heed Chryler's move of cancelling the Magnum and not bring this to the US. While I personnally thought the Magnum wasn't a bad car/idea, they obviously didn't sell well enough to keep around. I would doubt a G8 wagon is in the works.
