Comments on: Pontiac prices Solstice GXP

2007 Solstice and SKY pricing updated on my site, including GXP and Red Line.

I’ve estimated a $500 price increase on the regular SKY, to match that on the Solstice. I’ve also had to assume that leather package pricing will be the same for the Red Line and GXP even though a leather wheel with audio controls is standard on the turbo trims.

End result: after adjusting for other features the turbo costs about $2,000. Not bad.

It looks good. If I were in the market for this type car I would choose the Sky if I could get the same power package. The solstice does look like the better dollar value compared with other small cars in it’s class. One of the posters using the name JAPAN sounds as if he is still pissed about Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Japan you must be an ass wipe if your buying a Kia Rio. Personally I like the non-GXP look better, to me it looks like GM made the GXP look different just because they could (bad idea)! By the way I sat in both the Solstice and the Sky and liked the Solstice interior better, that piano black looked out of place IMO and there were huge panel gaps between the interior pieces in the Sky, the Sostice interior seemed more put together and less like a jig-saw puzzle.

#27, yes i forgot about the Sky. Sky is a lot better looking than Solstice. Sky and MX-5 Miata are best looking convertibles on the road.
What’s up with the god-forbidden UGLY gray plastic swoop on the dash to center console in the Solstice???? Some things never change at GM’s Pontiac design center…..

A few things:

From what I understand, GM has had a direct injection engine for a long time. It’s just not marketed as a GM engine and it’s only found on some European cars. I forgot the name of the engine. So let’s knock on GM cause it’s always fun to kick somebody in the balls, but GM’s engineers are just as capable as BMW engineers. Just as bad as us kicking GM in the nuts is us thinking there’s something ‘magical’ about German built engines. ICE’s have been around for a long time.

There’s also the Mallet solstice with 400hp V8 motor and a supercharger upgrade. I think you can get a total of over 600hp in such a small fun looking car.

I do think a used Z4M would be much better value than the Pontiac Solstice when it comes out. But, I would be happy with either car.

Guys, in all honesty 260 bhp from a 2.0 liter Turbo is really impressive (130 bhp per liter: higher output per liter than a Ferrari F430), plus the fact that GM came out with a direct Injection engine is a miracle.

uh… 260 hp ~300lbs convertible for 28k? competitors?

miata… nowhere near the same power until mspeed comes out, then maybe….

mustang ‘vert is significantly more expensive, not really the same kind of car anyway…

used s2000? ok, maybe for a fairly recent one with about 2 yrs worth of miles….

I’d say this is a nice little pocket for pontiac to be selling in. Especially when a mallett ‘vette isn’t twice as good a performer at at-least 2x the price.

The styling may not be to everyone’s liking (I kind of like it) but I think it’s an important car for GM for one big reason: it proves to them that taking chances and building something that differs from their cookiecutter designs pays off. The front end is the least attractive part of the car but the rest works nicely and looks pretty exotic considering its asking price.

I agree with #3. The only real domestic competition is the Mustang GT. That’s an easy choice in my mind.

It’s the imports that would prove to be its real competitors. Nissan 350Z. Audi TT. BMW Z4. Saab 9-3. And for a little more, you can have a Mercedes SLK. The smart thing to do with that $30k when the GXP does come out is to find a used BMW Z4 M.

go onto the pontiac website and build a soltice. with all of the normal options you would expect on a car now adays (IE: AC, ABS,) the car comes out to like 23000. this car i going to be up to 27-28,000 easy. thats a whole other price backet i dont think the car can compete in.

Anyone got estimated performance on this little guy? Are we talking around a 5.5 0-60 time? If so, not a bad deal and a step in the right direction for GM (even if they don’t know what the word “styling” means.)
