Introduced for the 2008 model year, the Pontiac Torrent GXP is built on GM's Theta platform (shared with the Chevrolet Equinox). It represents the Torrent's high performance version with sporty styling and a performance oriented drive train.

The Torrent GXP comes with a 264 horsepower 3.6-liter V6 mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Buyers have the option of purchasing the GXP with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Riding on an upgraded performance suspension, the GXP comes standard with 18' wheels.
The GXP offers a long list of standard safety equipment. GM's Onstar Services, which includes AccidentAssist, crash notification, fuel station location, hands-free calling, concierge services, turn-by-turn navigation and vehicle diagnostics, is available. In addition to Onstar, the Torrent includes GM's StabiliTrak Dynamic Control System, standard front air bags and standard antilock disc brakes at all four corners. Side curtain air bags are optional. In the event of an accident, the Torrent has a 5-star crash rating from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).
For 2008, the GXP offers two optional packages: a Sun and Sound package that includes a premium sound system and a power sunroof and a premium package that includes items like leather seats and heated front seats.
