For 2008, the Torrent comes in two trim lines - the Torrent Base and the Torrent GXP. The base model uses a 185 horsepower 3.4-liter V6 mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. Buyers have the option of purchasing the Torrent with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Riding on a standard sport suspension, the base Torrent features standard 16' alloy wheels with a variety of optional 17' and 18' wheels.
The Torrent offers a long list of standard safety equipment. GM's Onstar Services, which includes AccidentAssist, crash notification, fuel station location, hands-free calling, concierge services, turn-by-turn navigation and vehicle diagnostics, is available. In addition to Onstar, the Torrent includes GM's StabiliTrak Dynamic Control System, standard front air bags and standard antilock disc brakes at all four corners. Side curtain air bags are optional. In the event of an accident, the Torrent has a 5-star crash rating from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The base Torrent offers a variety of optional packages: a Sun and Sound package that includes a premium sound system and a power sunroof; a premium package that includes items like leather seats and heated front seats; and a preferred package that includes items like a remote vehicle starter system, floor mats, a power driver's seat and steering-wheel mounted audio controls.
