Over the past few months spy photographers have spotted plenty of prototypes out testing for the next-generation 911, but we now have some information on the changes that lie beneath. While the 911’s update will be more evolutionary rather than revolutionary — which is par for the course for the 911 nameplate — the changes promise to make the 911 even better.
On the 911’s exterior, the front and rear fascia should see a slight revision, including new LED lights, smaller fog lights and a new exhaust system.
But under the 911’s skin is where the real changes lie. According to Car, the 911’s 3.6L and 3.8L Boxer-six engines will receive the same direct-injection system Porsche added to its Cayenne SUV in 2007. The 3.6L unit will see a 20 horsepower bump — totaling 345 horsepower — and the 3.8L powerplant will now be rated at 385 horsepower. But even with the power boosts, look for the engines to improve fuel economy by 10 to 15 percent, thanks mostly to the new direct-injection system.
The updated 911 — expected to bow this fall — will finally receive a dual-clutch gearbox. The new system — dubbed Porsche Doppel Kupplungen, or just PDK for short — will be derived from Volkswagen’s famed line of DSG gearboxes.
The 911’s brakes will also be upgraded, which should help manage the increased power.
Porsche will also spruce up the 911’s interior with revised switchgear and a new steering wheel.
It’s expected that the new 911 will make its debut at June’s London Motor Show.

Loving tailights is like loving Hillary’s cankles.
ugh, make the vw beetle headlights go away already
Saw a great Le mans race this weeekend
beautiful cars!
yes, love the new taillights!! bout time they step up to LED!!
The best looking car in the world gets even better looking. To the moronic commenters who don’t understand Porsche’s design philosophy, some advice: Don’t buy one. Porsche will really miss you.
LLN own the best shots worldwide! Best pictures ever seen form this prototype.
-> there are special Bi- Xenon lights! This car own special lights, not as the other porsche 911 facelifts!
GREAT SPY SHOTS
WOW it looks so different to the previous one!
Facelift? Uh, ok.
Come on Porsche, grow some balls, will ya? This same 911 styling has got to be put to rest. The overall shape and look is so old and tired, its just stupid now.
You can still have lineage and heritage in your styling, while being more aggressive in the changes. Just look at the Corvette styling over the years - you can still immediately tell its a Corvette, but its much more modern and different looking from the older models.
This new 911 looks almost the same, and has almost the same profile as the 911 sold 20 years ago. The sad thing is, Porsche can design good looking cars. The Carrera GT was great looking.
Will we all be saying this same crap 20 years from now when they have an all electric propulsion system in same chassis.
“2009 Porsche 911 changes leaked”
what changes??
there was no changes in porsche design since 1964..
The lazyest design studio ever.
If the changes are leaking maybe they should put the old parts back on.
what’s funny as well is they tape the logo on the steering wheel, uh what for? like we CAN’T tell it’s a porsche, eeerrrrrrrrrrrr
I love that car & I love the fact that they preserve that immortal styling.
Definitely my preferred car in it’s segment and out of it.
At this point you might as well get a GT-R.
Of all the cars today Porsche has the best chance of keeping their super cars and meeting CAFE.
They never went for big V-8-10-12 engines.
Environmentalists will run YOUR life soon.
