2010 Porsche 911 GT3

03/03/2009, 10:19 AM

By Drew Johnson

At the Geneva Motor Show earlier today, Porsche officially took the wraps off of its race car for the road, the latest GT3. The naturally-aspirated six-cylinder puts out 435-horsepower thanks to an increase of engine capacity to 3.8 liters – up from 415 ponies and 3.6 liters. Expect the 911 GT3 to go on sale later this year in North America.

Porsche says the new 911 GT3 will do the 0-62 mph sprint in 4.1 seconds and maxes out at 194 mph.

To allow drivers a little more flexibility on track, it comes with a sport-oriented Porsche Stability Management that can disable stability control and traction control separately.

A unique aero package with bi-Xenon headlamps and LED tail lamps sets the GT3 apart from more mundane 911s.

The active suspension comes with upgraded anti-rollbars and larger brakes, though Porsche didn’t specify just how much larger the discs are. Late in the 2010 model year, the GT3 will be available with Porsche Active Drivetrain Mount engine mounts, which the automaker says can recognize high-performance driving to especially stiffen up the normally elastic “engine suspension.” For everyday driving, the mounts loosen up a little.

The GT3 goes on sale in October at a base price in the United States of $112,200. European buyers can get their hands on a GT3 in May.

What’s the difference between this and a GT3-RS?

^to build on that comment, we have a customer who drives a GT3 with racing seats and a rollcage ever day- in the winter he puts snow tires on the car. If it was an RS, I really don’t think that would be possible.

There are faster 911s out there but this is still the best one.

I still cant believe how they can push 435hp out of a naturally aspirated flat 6. Totally amazing.

yeah, thats quite a car… wouldnt want one as a daily driver, though… hats off to the guy jonmiles mentioned, who does his daily commute in this one minus comfortable seats…
difference between this and the RS-trim? GT3 is the beast… GT3 RS is the beast unleashed…
