Porsche 997 hits 100,000 mark quicker than any previous 911

07/11/2007, 11:52 AM

By Andrew Ganz

Porsche has built its 100,000th unit of the current 911, known to Porsche enthusiasts and insiders as the 997. The 997 has hit the 100,000 mark faster than any of its 911 predecessors.

The 100,00th car, a Guards Red Carrera S 6-speed manual, is headed to a customer in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Porsche’s Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen facility started production of the 997 in April 2004. The automaker expects to reach another milestone at the end of this month: a record 36,000 997s produced in fiscal year 2006/07.

How many people live in NY city? At least 100,000 New Yorkers could afford this car. This is 100,000 world wide. Looks pretty exclusive to me.

Their breaking their own records. That is the important part. A4 – I’m surprised that you would compare Aveo sales and Porsche sales. I’m sure you understand that the Aveo is supposed to be a low cost high volume seller where the Porsche is the exact opposite. Compare the Maserati, MB SL or the AM V-8 for a real comparison.
By these sales numbers the 997 is totally dominating its price segment.

Go Porsche

Would it really be THAT bad if the world were populated with Porsches? Maybe, because on some people it would be a waste of such beautiful engineering. Ok, I answered my question.

Wow, abundant ignorgance today.
And this claims to be an automotive “enthusiast” site.
Right.
Anyway, congrats to Porsche. They’ve proven wrong the idiots, assured their continued independence and expansion, and continued to produce the only really usable/exclusive sports cars.

Infamouz9325, although i like my chev i don’t care if you say american car are crap because that is just what you think and people have to learn to exept that. You shouldn’t try getting people to hate you it is not that great. i know what a crap car is and it is made in Russia and has 17hp and it was my first car. What you say now is what i said in Ukraine 33 years ago and i still say it today but about communist cars and all my friends leaned to exept that i wanted an american car when i was 16.

Burmanesski, are you talking about the Lada 1600?

I’m surprised it’s only 100,000 911s. I see so many of them on the road, I would have thought a million. I live in a big city in Canada, but known for limited expendable income. Yet, 911s are so common they don’t turn heads anymore. Nonetheless, beautiful car.

LOL – you beat me to it. I would trade my Z06 in for a 911 if I knew she came with the car. Or even if I knew she built some of the car. A hot looking girl that builds Porsches – now that’s nice!

Z06, very much agreed, I might even consider a Toyonda if I knew she came along with it, at least then I could sell the car and keep the girl!
