Most Porsche 911 models come equipped with four-wheel drive but, as one unlucky 911 driver recently discovered, that all-wheel drive system is no match for wet concrete.
Jim Gorzelany, a Forbes contributor and author of the Automotive Intelligentsia 2011-2012 Sports Car Guide, was recently driving through San Francisco when he came upon a rather unusual scene – a late model 911 up to its wheel-hubs in fresh cement.
As the story goes, the 911 driver became tired of waiting in stopped traffic and decided to circumvent the log-jam by pulling into an adjacent lane. The driver somehow failed to notice the construction crew working on the outer lane and quick found himself – and his car – entrapped in urban quicksand.
The driver remained in the car – either out of shame or preservation of his fine Italian leather shoes – but workers were last seen frantically digging to free the German sports car. No word on if the car was eventually dug out as Gorzelany continued on his way.
One thing is for sure, the 911 owner’s mechanic better be good with a chisel.
