Spied: Porsche Boxster Speedster

11/14/2008, 2:38 PM

By Drew Johnson

Porsche is planning to drop an updated version of its Boxster early next year, but it looks as though the German sports car maker has more in store for the popular drop top than just a refresh. Our spy photographers just spotted a Speedster version of the Boxster undergoing some shakedown testing.

Following the tradition of the former 911 models, the Boxster will soon be available as a Speedster, featuring a dome behind each headrest plus a lower windshield and a modified canvas hood.

The Speedster variant looks to be wearing unique wheels as well as a few extra aero bits.

Under the bonnet, we expect the car to get the engine of the Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2, developing 303 horsepower. No word on when we might see the production version of the Boxster Speedster, but with the standard car’s unveiling just weeks away, we don’t expect the Speedster to stay under wraps for long.

They could make a Jimmy Dean edition. You can’t tell me the Germans don’t like sausage.

Hell, why not a Jerry Seinfeld edition while they’re at it?

major improvement of the over all look of the boxster. But then again its just making all three model 911, cayman, and boxster all look more and more similar.

As long as it doesn’t look like the Notredame’s Humpback (the 911 convertible does) bring it and I’ll love it.
