Porsche says that it has built its 300,000 mid-engined two-seat modern sports car almost 15 years to the month after it began assembly.

Destined for a German customer, the 300,000th model was a Boxster Spyder finished in Platinum Silver metallic over Carrera Red leather.

Porsche counts both the Boxster and the Cayman together since the two vehicles share powertrains and a chassis. The Boxster was the first to arrive in mid-1996 as a 1997 model, while the Cayman followed about a decade later.

Initially, Porsche produced its Boxster only at a former 928 assembly plant in Zuffenhausen Germany, but strong demand forced it to add production in Finland at a Valmet Automotive assembly plant. However, Porsche ceased production in Finland earlier this year. Until Porsche introduced its Cayenne SUV, the Boxster was its best-selling model.
