MotorTrend has posted a detailed look at the new 2006 Porsche Carrera 4 and 4S, which first arrived in showrooms last weekend. Enthusiasts will notice the all-wheel-drive sports car’s slightly wider rear track and wider rear tires, when compared to the rear-wheel-drive 911. Reviewer Paul Horrell writes, “all-wheel drive isn’t necessary for immense grip on a Porsche 997. Nor traction. But when the going gets extreme–rocketing out of hairpins or encountering damp or dusty pavement–the new version gets on with the job, where its two-wheel-drive brother scrabbles, or activates its stability system, or even gets some tail-slide action. I can’t imagine you’ll slide a C4 without coordinated add lock/subtract-throttle inputs at pointlessly violent levels.” And of course, with the winter upon us, Carrera 4 drivers in cold climates will enjoy increased traction in slippery conditions.
