Porsche has announced a new Cayenne model that blends the performance of the S model with the efficiency of the Diesel. Appropriately called the Cayenne S Diesel, the new model will hit European showrooms in January.
Equipped with a twin-turbocharged 4.2L V8, the Cayenne S Diesel develops 381 horsepower and a massive 626 lb-ft of torque. As a result of that twist, the S Diesel can accelerate from 0-60 in just 5.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 157mph. Just as impressive, Porsche says the Cayenne S Diesel can achieve 34mpg on the European cycle, good enough for a total range of 745 miles.
In comparison, the standard Cayenne Diesel, which uses a 3.0L V6, offers 245 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque and a more leisurely 7.6 second sprint to 60. It returns 39mpg in combined driving.
The Cayenne S Diesel borrows most of its exterior design cues from the gas-powered Cayenne S, but does sport unique ‘diesel’ badges on its front wings. Porsche has also beefed up the S Diesel's brakes to handle the extra power of the engine.
Porsche promises that the S Diesel will handle just as well as the S, thanks to the company's Porsche Traction Management (PTM) active all-wheel drive and optional Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus.
The Porsche Cayenne S Diesel will land in UK showrooms this January with a starting price of £58,243 ($93,700). Porsche has not revealed any plans to sell the SUV in the United States.
