Porsche is well-known for its success with its racing heritage, and until recently, that mostly meant on the paved racetrack. Now, Porsche is entering a new segment with the introduction of the Cayenne S Transsyberia -- a purpose-built off-road machine that features many key elements from the successful off-road racing machine.
Based on the Cayenne S, the Transsyberia uses the same 405 horsepower 4.8-liter direct-injected V8 found in the Porsche Cayenne GTS. That power is routed through a six-speed manual transmission, although the final drive ratio has been dropped to 4.1:1, resulting is a 0-60 sprint of 6.1 seconds â€' a half second quicker than the standard Cayenne S. Porsche's six-speed automatic transmission is optional and features Tiptronic shifting with a final gear ratio that is shorter than the standard Cayenne S -- providing greater acceleration.
The Transsyberia features the Porsche Traction Management system, or PTM. PTM is a permanent all-wheel drive system that provides variable torque distribution. Standard distribution places 62% of the power in the rear, and 38% in the front -- a ratio that will automatically adjust as the situation demands it.
Also standard is Porsche Active Suspension Management, or PASM. PASM is an electronic damping control system that increases stability, comfort and safety. Air suspension is also standard.
While off-roading or cornering at high speeds Porsche's dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) will provide extra stability and reduce lateral body movement.
The Transsyberian package is available in several unique color combinations, including Black/Orange; Crystal Silver Metallic/Orange; Black/Meteor Grey Metallic and Meteor Grey Metallic/Crystal Silver Metallic. All but the Meteor Grey Metallic/Crystal Silver Metallic color combination comes with 18 inch wheels, skid plates and air inlets decked out in the same contrasting color combos.
The exterior styling is just unique due to the available color palette, but also due to enhanced exterior styling that is intended to invoke a greater feeling of aggressiveness. The front fascia features modified inlet openings with crossbars and a beefed-up skid plate that continues up onto the front of the vehicle.
The Transsyberia's color schemes continue throughout the SUV's interior. The interior features unique sport-style seats with added support -- wrapped in standard Alcantara for style and durability.
No cost options include Transsyberia decals adorning the bottom section of the Cayenne's doors and an off-road spec light bar, as well as a standard sports exhaust system tuned to output a powerful roar.
