I just love how someone who loves RRs and Crapton-Martins is balking about the environment. Maybe you can help the world by buying a prius too... cause that would do the trick!

Man doesn't even have the faintest clue when it comes to this stuff yet, so stop pretending like you do. Why was it much cooler during the period know as the "little ice age" from the 13th century until the mid-19th century? How come in the centuries preceding that era were markedly warmer than they were today... leading to the population explosion in Europe of those middle ages? How come the rising temperatures from the mid-19th century onward also coincides with the start of a period of increased solar activity? How come during that "little ice age" the sun was in a period of very little solar activity?

Bottom line douche bag - there's a whole lot more at play than man burning stuff. No one, and I mean NO ONE has a solid understanding of the earth's climate cycles... and that includes you - Professor Ass-ton.

Get off your soapbox already and stop pretending you know everything - because so far you've only proven you know next to nothing, regardless of whether we're talking about cars... or the environment.

Aston - You are right, in many aspects it is the world vs. USA. I can tell you one thing, it doesn't have anything to do with the environment. It has everything to do with redistributing our wealth. Anyone ever wonder why solutions to global warming always deal with taxes or sending money off somewhere? Carbon credits, which allow so-called polluters to lead a guilt free life by paying money... They are not solutions, they are ways to redistribute our wealth. There are other areas of disagreement as well, at least for those who are truely in it for the environment and not just the promotion of Marxism. Probably the biggest, are we the cause? And without a doubt I can say no. Read the rest of those links, it's a whole series called "The Deniers". So considering the fact we are not the cause, then why in hell do we need stricter CAFE standards that simply make vehicles more expensive? Maybe if we didn't have strict CAFE standards, alternate forms of energy would be cheaper to develop....how's that for irony? We don't need CAFE. Porsche as well as every other automanufacturer should fight this. And people really should stop buying into these schemes that simply promote class warfare.

Piablo, that was a pretty good argument against global warming. I must concede that I, with most of the scientific community could be wrong. But it seems pretty ostentatious that just a few people can prove the rest of the scientific community wrong. It seems that its the World vs America on global warming. Shame that global warmings second biggest causer is convinced it doesn't exist.

Wickedated - Controlling the weather and controlling the climate are two different things my friend. And that's my point. So many really passionate people out there that don't know what they are passionate about. Making it rain, or diverting rain is not lowering the Earth's temperature. Any idea what measures would be needed to manipulate Earth's climate? I would research it a bit before you stand behind it. What's truley ironic, is how you want to reduce pollution and CO2 emmisions out of respect for nature and the environment, yet it's perfectly okay to take control of the weather and yank it out of mother nature's hands. People, as you believe, have not been responsible thus far, but I suppose they'll get it right with weather manipulation? BTW, I live in Maryland and they never get the weather right.

PIABLO- " It scares me you'd be willing to try and change the earth's climate. Actually, not only willing, but suggest and support the attempt. Scary. Weather forecasters can't even get tomorrow's weather right and you want to change the climate."

I don't know which country you live in, but here in America the weather forecast is pretty damn accurate, down to the hour, give or take a couple of hours of margin. But that's not really the point, the point is that this is what humans do-- we control our environment. Don't be scared. I know it's hard for some to accept new technology, but don't view it as something bad. In fact in the near future, scientists plan on controlling the weather (making it rain in places with severe drought, stopping tropical storms from becoming deadly hurricanes, etc). It's science.

And yes, I do support that.

obviously, Porsche are adapting to the new CO2 cutting trend with hybrid SUVs and family units, but changing the emissions of all there models is impossible, It is a big risk change if they tried, Porsche are just making their point that the EU are controlling too much. Porsche vehicles contribute a minute amount of the sum of all emissions of the world. Why should Porsche have to change so much over the little emissions they produce.

Hey dumbasses, GHG's (greenhouse gases) have increased by a third since the Industrial Revolution. We can calculate this, so don't give me your written record crap. Coincidentally, the North polar icecap is melting big time, so much so that the North-West passage is now open. Temperature swings take thousands of years, but over the last dew decades, the Earth's temperature has risen so much that it would take much longer for the cycle to happen naturally.
The evidence is: Whale and walrus numbers are far lower than they should be, even if they were hunted. The freshwater draining off coasts is decreasing the salinity of coastal sea areas. Plankton are moving further North to escape the warming water.
Yes, there has been a natural cycle, but over the last 50 years (records had started) the cycle has sped up drastically. COINCIDENTALLY, that was when industry and cars were on the rise.

Oh Ass-ton Martin, so glad you've rejoined the ranks. Piablo beat me to it. Humanity has only been keeping written historical records of temperature for the past couple hundred years. How the hell are we to know what's abnormal? Do the world a favor and choke on my "Americanness" induced vomit, since you have nothing substantial to offer to any conversation.

Wow Aston, I didn't think it was possible but you sound almost as hateful as I do. Too bad we're on opposite ends of the spectrum. Before you go and label others ignorant idiots, ponder this point a moment. What's your point of reference for that 30-40 year increase? Weather data that is post-dated from the Revolutionary War? How can anyone make an inference on cyclical weather when their data doesn't even account for a full cycle? In case you haven't heard, the data that NASA produced for the hockey stick graph showing a so-called increased rate of warming has been torn apart by an amateur from Canada. Key areas of data were conveniently miscalculated. Oops. So yeah, today's climate is indeed COOLER than it was in the early 30s. And that's it. There is no clear perspective of North American weather data prior to Ben Franklin noting it daily in his little newspapaer let alone WORLD data. There was an ice age 20,000 years ago. Continents now bare were once lush. Pretty drastic changes. We can't even accurately predict the path of a hurricane 5 days in advance, but we are POSITIVE this planet is is going to lose it's ice caps in 10 years. I don't think I need to say much more.

AMGoff, your Americanness makes want to puke. Yes, climate change is cyclical, but have you seen how the cycle increased in the last 30-40 years? If it was going along normally, then the effects of global warming wouldn't be as pronounced as they are now. Go do some research, ignorant idiot, before spewing out some ridiculous shit that you use as your defense.

It won't be Al Gore that saves us from climate change, nor will it even be an ecologist. We will be saved by science, not nonsense political rantings.

Its not a case of adapting. The world needs revolution, not evolution to beat climate change. Instead of investing in fuel-efficient vehicles, why don't you put all your funds into hydrogen fuel cell technology, which IS the way forward. We're going to have to give up petrol one day, so let it be sooner rather than later!

I love it, a horde of intellectual elites solving the worlds problems with cheap bumper sticker sound bites. Some of you throw out the word 'adapt' as if Porsche were an adolescent brat refusing to eat their brussel sprouts. You make ignorance truely look blissful. Any idea how much that five-letter word costs auto manufacturers to implement? Sorry, rhetorical question.... Of course you don't! What's truely magical is these same idiots will also be the ones complaining their cars are too expensive!

Wickeddated - It scares me you'd be willing to try and change the earth's climate. Actually, not only willing, but suggest and support the attempt. Scary. Weather forecasters can't even get tomorrow's weather right and you want to change the climate. As if the world's climate was some cheap little transformer toy to take apart and try to fix. If I had to guess, there would be parts left over. Maybe before we take on such a daunting task, we might try something easy like terra-forming the Saharra into a rain forest? Or maybe we should at least practice on the moon first, or maybe Mars. Manufacturers are having a hard time developing cheap fuel efficienct vehicles, and you want to get busy reshaping the Earth's atmosphere.

God save the queen.

You people have a very one dimensional thought process. Sure, Global Warming may or may not been caused by humans, but that doesn't mean we have the responsibility to stop it from devastating our environment, regardless of it's a natural process or not. Ice ages are natural too, but if we were headed into an ice age and our survival was at risk, should we not intervene and preserve our place in this planet? The argument is not WHO is contributing to Global Warming, it's HOW we stop it. And besides, it's like it's been said in the previous posts... every other car maker is adapting. Fuck Porsche.

Kenny W, your point is correct. Porsche is a specialy automaker and we hate to see them get killed by these laws. Ford, like GM, VW, Toyota, Honda and Nissan is a mainstream automaker with much higher volumes and a wide variety of vehicles. Therefore, we expect more from them.

damn it... that stupid fucktard Jaguar had to finally go make some sense... but now we have a new kind of the fucktards on this thread - anyclearer...

yeah, there is such a thing as climate change... but it has nothing to do with man. Gee... did we watch Gore's docu-garbage recently? Let me guess.. you believe everything Michael Moore tells you too? There have been many times in the earths history where the overall climate was much warmer than it is now.. how the fuck do you think a bunch of giant reptiles were able to flourish around the globe? We're just now coming out of what's known as the "little ice age," places like Greenland was once a lot "greener" than it is today, despite all the hype in the news (just tonight ironically) about the ice sheets melting.... the sahara used to be lush and tropical... florida used to be underwater. It's all cyclical and we have nothing to do with it... the earth has been doing this shit long before man started burning stuff.

So get over yourself you treehugging pansy... besides I'll be dead long before the worst of it comes and we cool back into another ice age.. so what the fuck do I care?

I think I'll go burn something just for the hell of it... and maybe club a baby seal while I'm at it.

oh boo-hoo, poor porsche! As much as I'm against increasing emissions legislation... fuck 'em, that's what you get for putting all of your eggs in the high-performance basket. Maybe if you stopped trying to take over VW, you could actually invest in some cleaner engines.

The problem is that the people who make the regulations for cars and the car industry never know anything about cars or the car industry. That is why porsche calls them "naive". Lawmakers don't realize how difficult it will be for porsche to meet those regulations when their main product is high-end sports cars like the 911.

Yeah anyclearer, global warming is real. That man caused it IS NOT!

My environment gets warmer each summer and cooler each winter. Man i not the cause.

Antarctica was once tropical (dinosaur times). Man didn't make it a deep freeze.

The sahara was once lush. Man didn't make it a desert.

You once had the ability to reason. Nature took that away too.

Jag, your in moron. If you did any kind of research youd think different. You dont know it all and your opinion.....doesnt make it a fact. Global Warming is real......and even if you dont agree, making car companys live up to better standards is something everything goes through. Your life is in higherstandards, your food, your water, your health, and this is just something that needs to happen. Cars should be made in better standards including how much it creates co2. If you really think the weather is all because of its cycles and that we have had noooooo impact at all. Your a dumb ass and should go back to school.

damn right manhertm, porsche is just crying about making their inefficient sports cars gas friendly. Like previous posts said shut the fuck up and fix it. Lord knows they have enough money for research with the profit they turn on all of the expensive ass cars they build. To me i figured they would take this head on as a challenge to tackle. If they are "the best sports car maker on the planet" they should be excited about ringing out performance while still being conscious of the environment. Lets go porsche and see just what kind of engineering masterminds you are.
