Porsche gets free endorsement on ‘Sopranos’

“Oh my god! What a car!” Carmela Soprano squealed as she got behind the wheel of her brand spanking new Porsche Cayenne Turbo, a pricey gift from mobster husband Tony, on the season debut of HBO’s “The Sopranos.” She even mentioned the car by name. And while it make have felt like a paid product placement, it was not, says Porsche’s advertising agency. Writer Terence Winter’s script mentioned the Cayenne, and the Porsche was loaned to producers, reports Phil Rosenthal of the Chicago Tribune. Product placement has reportedly become a more than $1 billion annual industry, but this placement did not contribute that that massive toll. “We absolutely do not take product placement,” an HBO spokesperson said.

Don’t take product placement? Come on! Look at the movie…well I can’t be sued but there are advertisments in movies. It’s the new way. Especially cars! I mean look at the shows on basic cable. Give me a break. Let the cast keep a few shirts or what not and you get a commercial for cheaper than on air. Most people go to the can during commercials.

…nice commercial. Too bad the program is ’same old’. I taped it for a friend who does not get HBO ..and is a movie nut; he called to say;”Don’t bother.” We’ll wait for DEADWOOD or the new Eliz-1.

What, he couldn’t spring for the Turbo S? I mean – 70HP more really counts when there are people shooting at you!

The funny thing was that it was a Cayenne S and not a Turbo.
