    • Porsche Panamera to offer trailer hitch
    By Andrew Ganz

Chalk this one up under unexpected: The upcoming Porsche Panamera supersedan will offer a trailer hitch as an accessory option – at least in Europe. We haven’t received confirmation from Porsche on whether the hitch will make the journey across the Atlantic to North America, however.
Thanks to our friends at vLane, who discovered the electric-folding hitch in an accessory catalog for the yet-to-be-released Panamera.

We have to question just why Porsche would offer a hitch on its sedan when the Cayenne SUV makes a pretty reasonable tow vehicle. Then again, Porsche does offer a cargo-hauling roof rack for all models.

Uh…. I thought that Porsche owners bought their product to make up for their small, um, twig and berries. I never thought Porsche would put it directly on the car! Talk about a subtle reference!

Generally accurately stated, however James Dean was not small twig guy. He raced Porsche.

==>>I love porsche to death, and is very infactuated with the company and its products. But an article about a trailer hitch? C’mon LLN. We can get wayy better news.

I can tell exactly why it’s there: Track Day.

Lots of autocrossers have put trailer hitches on everything from Miatas to CRXs so they can tow a very small trailer with their tires, compressor and other tools to the event without having to use a truck and car-hauler. I’m sure Porsche would much rather install such an important accessory themselves since they will know exactly how to mount it to be the most robust and do little to no damage to the structure of the car. Billy-bob at U-Haul probably isn’t going to do a good job.

Even trucks look better than the Panamera, so adding a hitch places it closer to its “should-be” vehicle category.

I spend quite a few Fridays at our local dragstrip and I dont ever see too many people in a Porsche draggin them. Furthermore a person that has a Miata or CRX dont have the same money as someone who buys a car that starts at $90k. Lastly there are other types of Porsches to take to the track besides the four door

I highly doubt the trailer hitch option will come stateside. In parts of Europe, hitches are a common sight on sedans and small cars; cars need to be more versatile. I’d say that it’s intended use is probably aimed more toward personal watercraft or a small harbor dinghy, and not for trackday spares. But like I said, I don’t know that we here in the states can judge, because I’m quite certain it’s not for us anyway. Still, I think it’d be funny to see someone trailering an F350 with his Panamera just for laugh.

===>>@moparsalesman1: that’s YOUR local dragstrip. Your local dragstrip doesn’t represent everyone elses’. I seen plenty of Porsche’s at BOTH dragstrips around my area in SC, and racing at the same time as CRX’s/Miatas/SpecV Sentras.

well, first i thought “ugh”, too, but then… they even offered that on some previous versions of the GT3, so a customer who wishes to haul his horses in style, or his yacht with some extra punch, can do so…

anyway, only people who want it will buy it, and IF theres people who want it, and porsche wouldnt seel it, the money would go to the aftermarket… why should porsche let this happen?

Why exactly is everyone calling this a “douche car?” What’s the difference between a 2-door Porsche with four seats and a 4-door Porsche with four seats? I actually like the styling of the Panamera a lot better than the 911 (I’ve never been a fan of the ugly bug look). When I’m rich (and I know how to get there: Real Estate, Baby!), I’m going to pick one of these bad-boys up.

Well… if the Cayenne is eventually going to bite the dust in favor of the Panamera I imagine Porsche wants all its rich fanboys to still have the ability to tow their GT3RS to the track with something.

good for you. a drag car shouldnt tow its parts you should tow a drag car. If you’re really a serious dragster. I dont care if your from the northeast or the dirty south

This is one of the funniest threads I’ve ever read. First thing I thought was, “Um, that looks like a penis – especially in the small picture.”

Honestly, towing is more than just a hitch – you need a good transmission and brakes. If I had a Porsche, even a Cayanne, I wouldn’t want to tow anything with it. Porsche makes a great machine for fun, but towing stuff with one makes me shudder. I don’t see how pulling your dragster on a trailer with your Panamera is a good idea. I thought the Panamera was supposed to drive to the track, and then race on it. I’d rather tow my Panamera to the track with an old beat-up truck (so that I don’t ruin my Panamera). Although I wouldn’t buy a Panamera to begin with, I think my point is clear as to why this isn’t the best of ideas.

The phallic reference is not very reassuring, either. To me, this looks like some sort of mean joke that Porsche is playing on its buyers – “Let’s see if they get THIS one! Muahahaha!” Funny as hell, though.

Truck nuts would be a hilarious addition, Tob.

This wont make it to the US, the europeans think we cant tow with a car. The european jetta TDI has a 2000-3000lb tow rating, while the exact same car is rated to tow zero in the US.
