According to Autocar and PistonHeads in the U.K., the Porsche 997 versions of the 911 Turbo Targa and 911 GT3 are well-advanced in their development, with launches coming soon. Meanwhile, there are rumors of an entry-level Cayman and a range-topping, stripped-out Cayman RS for 2008. There are even hints that the company would like to revisit its Mercedes and Audi tuning projects — a program that saw Porsche building high-performance variants of those companies’ vehicles. At least on the Audi front, this could be a possibility given that Porsche now owns a chunk of VW. AutoCar also reiterated plans for a redesigned Cayenne SUV. The Leftlane perspective: Don’t hold your breath for a Porsche-tuned Mercedes, but given the tight Porsche-VW relationship, some hotrod Audis remain a distinct possibility.
