Just FYI, BorgWarner makes the clutch system for all the DSG-type trannies, including the one in Veyron (which is a Ricardo tranny). Including the upcoming one at Porsche. BorgWarner is an American company! Big3 sleep?
I’ll get a Cayman S with DSG in 2007/8.

Great news. Now I can seriously consider a Boxster or Cayman without having to buy a VW GTI.

I am however, hoping the Audi folks will eventually fit the DSG into a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder.

Rotting in the lot?!?! I know you’re not talking about the 911 turbo. And truthfully, your Camero won’t embarrass anyone in a Turbo. And Considering their performance capibilities, they’re actually quite modestly priced. But you can embarrass me in my Blazer whenever you want.

to number 13. A Corvette ZO6 will keep up with the new Turbo porsche. As for a Camero, maybe through a blower on it, then you can keep up… until you enter the first corner.

Call me a traditionalist, but I still prefer a real manual with a clutch, even if I’m 0.2 seconds (or whatever) slower than a DSG. Its far more gratifying to drive.

Renton:
There are several sizes of the DSG box. One is used on the Audi R8, and now R10 Le Mans car. The issue with the 3.6 VR6 engine is that the engine/tranny combination are too large to fit the existing Golf/Jetta V platform. This is why there is going to only be an R32 Golf V, not an R36.

So, I’m sure the ‘box will hold up just fine in this application.

I have driven a 911 Turbo with the current Tiptronic and let me say. Holy Fukk! That is the way to option the turbo. That car has soooo much power you miss nothing without the manual. It also gives you very good control for a torque-converter based tranny. The tiptronic is also quicker from 0-60 than its manual brother.

911 Turbo — get the autobox. That is the way they sell the majority of Turbos in Germany

911 GT3 — get the manual

I’m curious to see how well this new DSG holds up to the freaky torque of the Turbo, since the current DSG in the GTI had problems with even the new 3.6 VR6 engine.

Porsche had DSG style trannys in there race cars back in the late 70s. So if anything VW is copying Porsche. I cant wait to see this tranny in action. though i would only drive a manual. I read about the new Turbo with the tiptronic that is faster then the manual because the turbos can spool up before the car is in motion. should be a BIG advantage for the Boxster/Caymen as no one else has an option like that.
