The Panamera already boasts one of the roomiest backseats in the Porsche lineup, but the German automaker will reportedly be serving up even more rear-seat comfort with an extended wheelbase version of the four-door.
Demand has been booming for the Panamera in the United States and China, but some customers have asked for even more rear seat room. As a result, Porsche is reportedly developing a long wheelbase version of the Panamera sedan.
According to AutoWeek, Porsche is planning to offer a stretched version of the Panamera that would extend the four door’s wheelbase from its current 114.9 inches to about 120 inches – or roughly on par with the regular wheelbase BMW 7-Series. Although most of that extra space will go directed to more rear-seat legroom, the LWB version will also have a larger door opening, allowing for better backseat ingress/egress.
The long-wheelbase Panamera is expected to launch sometime in 2012 with a slight price premium. The LWB model will also coincide with a minor exterior refresh.
