There will be no 2007 Porsche Cayenne due to slow sales of the midsize SUV, according to a published report. Dealers will sell the 2006 model up until the facelifted version arrives for the 2008 model year, according to Automotive News. Sales of the Cayenne have fallen significantly in recent months, as consumers move away from SUVs. The 2008 model will arrive sooner than usual, and Porsche said one reason it decided to skip a model year was to avoid confusing consumers with a short-lived 2007 model. Porsche will preview the 2008 Cayenne in January at the Detroit auto show. A completely redesigned Cayenne is expected for the 2010 or 2011 model year. Rumors have suggested it will have a more wagon-like appearance than the existing truck-like model.

At times there are more Cayennes going out than 911s/Boxsters/Caymans

Well they make more Cayennes then 911’s and boxers as well so that doesn’t really count. I work for a Land Rover dealership and we have lots more LR3s going out then Range Rovers but they make almost five times as many LR3s. That means even though we sell many more LR3s then Range Rovers because they make so many more LR3s we are over stocked with LR3s.

Awesome news for us GM fans. Anyone notice that Cayenne sales have dropped since the introduction of the awesome GMT-900 SUV’s? Maybe buyers know where to get a real SUV not some Nazi poser like this Pepperwagon?
Just think what’s going to happen to Porsche once the next Camaro arrives?

The SUV market is splitting into three types:
- Drivers who want a blend of sport and utility (FX35, RR Sport)
- Drivers who will actually go off road and need towing ability (Tahoe, Jeep)
- Drivers who still want a traditional
- Drivers who really need a wagon but won’t buy a wagon (MB R-Class, RAV4, Murano)
The traditional SUV like the Explorer is fading fast. The Cayenne (and Toureg) has too much off road, and not enough sport. They are smart to retool it for modern tastes and more in fitting with their image.

Good car but to many as you guys in LLN put it to many “soccer moms” drive it.
and Gmnumber14ever, what the hell does the Camaro have to do with Porsche? They’re not going to be in the same market and nothing between them is similar.
I hope they come out with that Cayenne that looked more like a wagon that they had on LLN a while ago I liked that one and it’s more fitting to Porsches “sporty” image.

its hard to argue with a 500hp Twin Turbo V8. I will assume the next-gen Cayenne will be a lower volume SUV making it more exclusive a necessity with gas prices liek they are. I dont think the Turbo or S is what is taking the hit. its the base Cayenne with the v6…its gets ****ty MPG. if you can afford a 100,000 SUV you can afford the gas so I don’t think the V8 and TTV8 will be effected much. I would suspect they may even drop the v6 altogether.

Good, leave the SUV market to the experts. Cayenne sales have fallen because of the GMT-900 SUV’s being far superior to the Porsche, PERIOD. Even Porsche corporate has realized that they can’t compete so they are giving up the fight, smart move I guess. The GMT-900 is where its at boys, why anyone would buy otherwise is beyond me.

No. Porsche will still make the MY06 Cayenne in their factories. They have simply opted not to spend all the time and money necessary to offer a new model year. If they were to offer a MY07, they would need to add some new equipment standard or re-package options and even spend some incentive monies to run-out the MY06 vehicles. Not to mention the cost of certifying a new model year vehicle in all the different countries they sell in. So, Porsche will continue to build the MY06 Cayenne, but they can throttle-back the production so that supply meets demand and save themselves a bunch of $$ in the process. Money they can apply to the redesign for MY08.

I just looked out my office window at the Porsche dealer I work at and the parking gargage is loaded w/ unsold Cayenne’s. I’m not surprised. No one seems to mention how bad the CSI ratings have fallen since the Cayenne (i.e. 20+ service actions and recalls).
We sell Land Rovers- I mean we actually SELL Land Rovers.

I still like the wagon version. And to A non E Musss sales are not dropping because of the new GMs. Think about it, they’re in a total different price range, totally different quality, and different performance. You probably won’t see many people with a Porsche Cayenne and a GM SUV.
I also agree with Mike Keller.

It’s too f’ing big, 2 f’ing slow and guzzles 2 much f’ing gas. The interior is f’ing sub par and it costs 2 much f’ing money for what you get. They need to lighten it up, improve the MPG and definitely improve the interior, even GM trucks have better interiors these days. Staunchy interiors are ok in a purpose built sports car like the 911 but the Cayenne competes in the lux segment, interior is key….
