Getting in on the zero emissions movement, Porsche has begun testing an all-electric version of its Boxster roadster. Referred to as “mobile laboratories”, Porsche is currently testing three Boxster EV prototypes.
Porsche is keeping the details of the project largely a secret, but did reveal each prototype is powered by a 29kWh battery pack and a pair of electric motors. Total output is said to be 240 horsepower.
Porsche is keeping the performance figures of the Boxster EV under wraps, but said the prototypes compare favorably to the Boxster S. The Boxster S can accelerate from 0-60 in just over 5 seconds and hit a top speed of 170mph.
Porsche doesn’t currently have any plans to a version of the Boxster EV into production, but that time is probably coming. Audi and BMW are developing electric sports cars, with an answer from Porsche a distinct possibility.
