Porsche to break 100,000 barrier

05/08/2006, 9:13 AM

By admin

Porsche is experiencing extremely strong demand for its 2007 911 Turbo, according to a German newspaper report. The report indicates the automaker expects to sell 6,000 of the 480 horsepower cars this year. Many dealers are reporting that they’ve already exceeded their quotas. Sales chief Hans Riedel said in the interview that sales had also been very strong for the new Cayman coupe and updated Boxster roadster. When asked if Porsche would set a new sales record for 2006, Riedel was optimistic. Porsche will “just break through the 100,000 barrier,” for the 2006 financial year ending July 31st, he said. Porsche sold 88,379 cars in fiscal 2005.

Wow. If they would just give up on motorsports altogether (they’re pretty close already) or continue their involvement in obscure arenas where they have no serious competition (yes P2 we’re all looking at you), they could probably sell 200,000 cars. Maybe add a less expensive sport-ute crossover, sort of a 914 version of the Cayenne…. *vomits*.

Those 100K Porsche units are worldwide.
Audi sells way more than 100K units worldwide.

Awesome stuff Porsche – the turnaround in the past decade or so has been phenomenal. It’s hard to believe that just 15-20 years ago, Porsche was nearly bankrupt. Wendelin Wiedeking, you are a God.
