When I look at the auto ads, it seems a lot of Porsche cars have run a lot of miles. For my money I'd rely on a P-car to run long and strong over an Aston Martin, and I love Astons! I'm just not sure a Ford v12 has a ton of miles in it.

I guess someone will have to send me one of each, I'll drive 'em through a few dozen sets of tires and let you all know. Just call for delivery address and time.

Snore snore.

This thing will be 3 years newer than the Aston Martin Rapidé when it's launched.

It will also be 3 years uglier, 3 years less sophisticated, 3 years slower and...

3 Years too late.

It's dull, boring, whimsical, superfluous and soulless.

I'd rather have a cold than a Panamera. If I were given one, I'd sell it and buy an Aston.

I hope it can take 3 kids booster seats across the back.
The 997TT cannot. But I do have a second garage for the alone time car.

4 place sports cars with the long lean low look have always caught my eye. This would be a great Denver to Chicago (a path I've worn a bit) car!

When a new model is coming out, typically sales of the current model drop. Companies often release special editions of cars to make them exciting and relevant so that sales stay up.

For example: Say you were fairly well off. You're looking for a top-of-the-line luxury sedan. Audi's A8 is VERY nice, but the new model is coming soon. That will make you reluctant to buy it, because if you wait, you can have a better one. OR you can have a better one NOW with the S8. That make sense?

I'd love to hear some thoughts on my previous comment.

kinda off topic but why is audi coming out with the S8 now when they're redesigning the A8? ugh

VERY good point Scott. I have to agree. But I dont know if its really supposed to be competing with the S-Class. I imagine that since its the same kind of concept as the CLS, it would be aimed at that. But that actually brings up an interesting point:

Aston Martin Rapide, Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, Porsche Panamera-- they're all the same idea, interpreted differently. But how differently will they be priced? Will they be competetors? I image the CLS would be cheapest, Panamera second most expensive, with the Rapide priced pretty high. What do you guys think?

I would imagine that many Cayenes share the garage with a Carrera. If Porche didn’t develop the Cayene, there would be a Suburban or Escalade in that spot. Same will go for the Panamera. It will oust the S-Class from its berth.

Yeah, but for the miniscule additional speed you get with the tip, you lose a lot of the fun that comes with having a manual gearbox. The DSG is the best of both worlds, and is faster than the tip and the manual, while still allowing you to shift via paddles.

The new Turbo tip is faster to 60 because the car is able to build boost before the car is moving...i thin kthe diff is about .3 or .4. i would love to see what they do with a DSG style gearbox

Ed,

As long as they use the DSG transmission it will be fast, but if they use the 6-speed Tiptronic…well, I hope they have manual option for the car.

Porsche still makes great sports cars but unfortunately they also make minivans, er, I mean, SUVs. Hmmm, 6 cylinder slushbox Cayenne that hits 60mph a few seconds behind a Honda Civic Si. Dr. Porsche must be revving to Ferrari-like speeds every time one of those turds rolls off the assembly line.
