Thanks to a growing product portfolio, Porsche will reportedly add 1,000 new employees by mid-decade. Most of the new jobs will help support the production of an all-new compact SUV.

According to Automotive News, Porsche will add about 500 new employees to aid in the production of the company’s upcoming compact SUV. Dubbed the Cajun, the sub-Cayenne SUV will hit the European market sometime in 2013, followed about 6 months later by the car’s North American launch.

Porsche has yet to decide on a production location for the Cajun, but the compact SUV will most likely be built at the company’s Leipzig, Germany plant. The Leipzig plant currently produces the Cayenne full-size SUV and Panamera sedan.

Additionally, Porsche will hire another 500 employees — most of which will be engineers – by 2015 at its Weissach R&D center. The Weissach facility could add another 500 workers by 2018.

In all Porsche will invest about 1.25 million euros in facility upgrades and future product development as it grows its product line from four models to seven. Porsche plans to more than double its annual sales to 200,000 units by 2015.
