Spied: 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupeby Drew Johnson
Porsche is getting in on the SUV coupe market.
Porsche's long-rumored Cayenne Coupe has been spotted undergoing shakedown testing in Germany. The sleeker styled Cayenne is expected to land in Porsche showrooms next year.
Following in the footsteps of vehicles like the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, Porsche will soon introduce an SUV "coupe" of its own. Porsche is likely to launch the Cayenne Coupe in the second half of 2019 as a 2020 model.
When the Cayenne Coupe does finally land, you can expect front-end styling similar to the normal Cayenne. However, the Cayenne Coupe will be different from the A-pillars back, with a unique windshield and side windows. The biggest difference between the two models will obviously be a more sharply raked rear roof section for the Cayenne Coupe.
The Cayenne Coupe will ride on a version of Volkswagen's MLB Evo platform and will ship standard with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The base engine in the Cayenne Coupe will be a turbocharged V6 with around 440 horsepower. A 4.0L turbocharged V8 will also be on offer and should generate about 540 horsepower. A range-topping hybrid is also rumored; that model could have up to 680 horsepower.
The Cayenne Coupe will offer seating for up to five, but obviously rear-seat headroom and cargo space will be impacted by the SUV's sloping roofline. Pricing remains a mystery at this time.
