Building a car with a modern V8 on a RWD platform which is SO much more fun to drive than a FWD is the way to draw consumers. People want power, they want features, they want more control over gas mileage, and they want affordability. If Pontiac offers this with a RWD V8, heads up display, trip computers, stock amplified sound systems, displacement on demand, etc, all at prices in the range of GP’s over the last 5 years; people won’t compare the GP to the Camry, they’ll run right past it without even caring to take a look. That’s how you win in todays market, you have to turn heads and evoke passion, not try to be “best in class”. If you haven’t driven a fully loaded post 1997 grand prix, got out and drive one, then you’ll get it.

Again, rather than come up with a comptetive, competent V6 to win buyers over from the Camry and Accord, GM packs a freakin truck motor into it just to keep up. What that take a late night or two at the design center to come up with that bandaid?

Because everyone is clammoring for 300+ lb/ft of torque to the front wheels… Yet none of the competition is following GM’s lead on this. hmmmmmm wonder why?

I think if they bring this over and don’t change much about it it could be a great car. This car could steal a lot of potential buyers from Mitsu, Subaru, and even BMW. Holden actually pays attention to small details, something GM (USA), is bad about… The side rockers, the molded in front lip, the fog lights, the side markers, the mesh grill, the blackout housings, the door handles, the tops of the side view mirrors, are all things that GM would have skimped on. (I know the sidemarkers won’t make it, “Wut er these here side lights fer anyway?”) Motor Trend should not start calling this a “muscle car”, and you guys are tools for saying it needs more camaro styling. This is a powerful, refined sports sedan. It looks good the way it is, let’s hope Pontiac doesn’t screw it up.

And who the hell is comparing it to an AUDI? Your kidding right? Audi hasn’t built a stylish ride in their enire existance. Their bubbly, chintsy and cheap. Only a blind idiot would praise an Audi interior over a superior GM interior.

Come on GM, do it. Make the G8 or Grand Prix or whatever you’re going to call it.

And, what’s with dropping the LS2 motor?

This could be another disaster.

As for the car, I think it would be a good move for Pontiac. Not necessarily to import it, but to make a 4 door RWD vehicle even domestically (which they have talked about). Basic sense shows that people are abandoning large SUVs and getting into larger cars as they still want something of size and substance.

They have expressed a desire to make pontiac an exciting brand and a solid performing replacement for the grand prix / bonneville followed by a camaro derived GTO would be a solid start. Their new V6s drop this year which I assume should make their way into the G6 for a boost in performance.

The G5 should sell well as the reincarnation of the sunfire and if they can sping a GXP model a la cobalt SS supercharged it couls well be an exciting lineup. Speaking of the G5, if they had made the car available out of the gate, I would expect that pontiac sales would be comaprably solid for the year (20k units of sunfire sales to match this year so far, with no car to do it).
