Predicting the 2008 Saab 9-5

08/07/2006, 7:59 AM

By admin

Swedish auto magazine Teknikens Värld has published a new illustration of what it says in the 2008 Saab 9-5. The image appears on the cover of Issue 16, which is now on sale. The illustration is similar to a recent rendering on the cover of Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport. Full image after the jump…

this is suppose to look good?
It looks like a future wagon dreamed up in the 80’s.

No way, if this design was conceived in the 80’s it would have had smaller-diameter wheels, more chrome, thinner pillars, a less audacious face, sharper corners, straighter lines and a less prominent tint on the glasshouse. This is very much a product of now.

And yeah, it does look good.

Remember…what ever the design it has to stretch over the Malibu/Vectra platform.

I like the front end design, it’s sleek and simple. I agree the rear looks like a hatch.
I’ve always liked Saab cars they get decent mpg and they don’t look terrible- neither do they look fascinating. But the back just doesn’t go good to me, looks more like a crossover SUV with the large back profile…
Maybe it wouldn’t if I saw 360 degrees around the car.
Love the front looks decent they’ll probably sell good if they are similar to this.

Maybe it is a hatch….Saabs always were till they had to “appeal” to the US market. Hopefully Americans have gotten a bit smarter since I see more hatches being bought here. I have a hatch and it comes in quite handy, almost annoyinglys so because all my friends that have truncated cars always aske me to go and pick up stuff for them since crap won’t fit in their trunk. I think this design looks good. Nice front end…hopefully the rear will be just as simple and unique, hopefully giving Saab back some of its “when you see it, you know it’s a Saab” look.

I predict it will suck.

I think the front lost too much edge from the wall sketch/Aero X concept. There needs to be much more definition, it looks too bland, like the beancounters really chipped away at it.

I think it looks good!! Besides it looks like its a hatchback!… It needs to be a sedan!

It looks nice. Nothing wrong with a nice hatchback body. Looks distinctive. Maybe its queer styling will appeal to Saab’s usually queer loyal customers.

there’s no way the 9-5 will look like that. I’m predicting a kappa model with a hatch with some Aero-X styling. In white. with 17″ versions of THOSE wheels. The turbo model is a natural “aero.” It’ll sell so long as they redo the interior and charge the right amount for it. mid-thirties is ok if they really really redo the interior right. I hope GM sells saab, none of this is becoming to them.
