Retarded? Retarded and ignorant? - Retarded and ignorant is falling for a fabrication of the media, an empty suit that wants to be a big shot, a slogan…a slogan…just another slogan and a hundred handlers from the bowels of two bit colleges and frustrated counter culture worship groups. Advertisers know what’s going on. Car salesmen know what’s going on and small time hustlers know what’s going on but it appears, as always, many gullible, distracted people are wondering through the dark looking for another “change” merchant.
Incredible.

I am so glad to read the posts by xyunya, SigmaHyperion and a couple others on here. Rational. Logical. Well thought out points based on current information.
.
.
Then you get to the liberal comments and they are mostly emotional ranting. Regurgitated moveon.org talking points with some NPR-style name calling thrown in.

Ah yes, reading the completely retarded comments posted by ignorant, gun-toting neo-con Neanderthals reminds me why we must have Barack Obama as the next president of the United States. You're all stupid, stupid fucks, open your eyes and see where we've failed (all 8 of the past years), the War in Iraq is a bust, lives are lost daily, trillions of dollars that could have been used towards all of the improvements we need to be making at home and in the economy have been washed away, and we have lost all international respect and standing that we once had. PATHETIC. Fuck John McCain.

t-ak-box, how do you know that you buying into smart? not stupid? is there is a measuring tool? Oil companies did not build any new refineries in the past 25 years, because they could not make money on it. They do not drill on land that they have leases on, because they already know that there is no oil under those lands. If we would have oil in 5-10 years, then as a country we could conduct differently in regards to our "allies" and "trade partners" alike. The draft was in this country only for short period of time in the last century. Furthermore, military doctrine today relies more on motivated volunteer army then on large number of conscripts. Examples are Britain vs. Argentina war, Afghanistan vs. Soviet Union. US special forces destroyed Taliban in Afghanistan in less then 3 months; Soviet Union conscript Red Army lost during 10 year struggle and run away.
So what the basis of buying into brilliance? I would love to be smart one as well.

"If the Oil Companies wanted to find more oil offshore why aren’t they doing anything with the contracts they already have?"

Because the land that they currently have leases on isn't NEARLY as efficient to pull from as other sources are. If your goal is to reduce costs it'd be pretty stupid to go after the expensive oil first when there's billions of barrels of much cheaper stuff to get.

"Why HAVEN’T Oil Companies built any Refineries in the last 25yrs?"

Because they haven't been allowed to. They HAVE significantly expanded the capacity of the refineries that do exist though.

"Why would the Oil they get in Alaska be sold and shipped to Asia and/or India?"

Because oil is sold on the International market. It's a commodity. They BOUGHT it from Alaska, they have the right to sell it to whomever they want. Don't like it have the contracts changed.

"If the Oil industry got what it wanted from Congress last week. We wouldn’t see any developments from that in about Five to Ten years. How would that help us now?"

The market is full of speculation. There are many thousands of investors out there inflating the price because they know AS LONG AS THE STATUS QUO IS MAINTAINED, prices will continue to rise. Even the THREAT of increased supply can significantly effec the price -- we see that after any announcement regarding natural disasters, pipeline issues, refinery shutdowns, etc. The market reacts to SPECULATION not any rational news. Just as we know that even the threat of increased demand continues to drive the price up. It doesn't matter that the demand isn't necessarily there -- in fact, refineries are slowing down production because we're producing domestic gasoline faster than we're burning it -- all that matters is that someone, somewhere, THINKS it's going to go up.

"Why doesn’t the President release some the Oil that’s been held in the national Oil Reserve? Oil the has been held every year he’s been in office. Oil that would’ve helped to keep oil prices lower."

1> Because it's the Oil RESERVE for a reason. It's not kept there for political points when gas prices are high. It's kept there for NATIONAL SECURITY.
2> As a matter of fact, he DID release some oil -- SIX TIMES since he took his presidency. Oil's only been released from the Reserve 12 times EVER, 6 of which was in Bush's term.
3> The oil kept in reserve is very low quality. It's good enough for emergencies, but it's not something you want to flood the market with on a regular basis.

^^^^^ It's simple. They make MORE money by not doing those things. I'm not backing the supply and demand BS by any means, but they can just hide the blame better that way. Typical greedy mofo's, they don't care about the future of the world, just rape us while they're here. There is NO REASON they can't be investing much more into alternative fuels, bothe the government AND the oil companies. The oil companies should have the RESPONSIBILITY to invest in alternative fuels and help lower prices, because they are what makes the world thrive and without us they aren't $H!T. But because they're greedy and could care less once they're gone they just have to have that extra million $ yacht and another house in Aspen and etc etc etc.

It’s a dangerous world folks. There are asshole snakes that think killing us will get them laid in the hereafter. They actually don’t care about fast cars or cold beer – and that makes them whimpshits and fools that happen to have ak47s and dynamite belts. And because of this fact I wouldn’t even consider for one second the idea of an obama type being in the foxhole with me or anyone I love or care about. And that’s what the commander in chief has to be – that brother in the hole with you when the shit hits the fan. So I think money for a battery is OK as long as it comes with someone that I would let in the damn foxhole when that time comes.

I agree, Xyunya. Bush made mention of letting the military conduct the war, but then politics interfered.

I say if we are not going to scorch the earth in Iraq the way we should, then let Iran get the nukes they crave and Israel and Iran can scorch the whole damn place for us and get rid of the problem once and for all. Just get our troops outta there first. If they cut my taxes by the share needed to fund military operations in that pathetic pigsphincter then I'll pay $8/gallon and still end up ahead.

I for once don't believe Iraq is a mistake. Then again, I don't live far from Logan where planes took off and not far from a city where they landed. I think bringing war to the enemy is the best defense. The war is going on since February 261993, when they bombed WTC the first time and 7 Americans lost their lives. During Clinton house orgy over 200 Americans lost their lives and can someone tell me how much those lives cost? My only disappointment that we are fighting this war like Vietnam. I think we should paved them first and whatever survived would get an ultimatum: behave or die. It was done to Germany and Japan during WWII and they are thankful for that.

@mayer_ray_nagin: Yes, pulling out of Iraq will save money in the short term (don't agree it would in the long term, but that's for another days post about automobiles I guess). Saving lives is not something pulling out of Iraq at this point will do and I think even the biggest short sighted peace freak would agree that the bloodshed would be off the charts and ten times what it has been to date. The soldiers over there now are the only reason millions aren't being killed today and without them you think $4 a gallon gas is bad.... how about no gas???

@02WRXPSM: Iraq costs the U.S. a trillion dollars a year? Do you actually have any idea how much a trillion dollars is? It's really sad how ill informed most people are about stuff like this now-a-days. Thanks Internet.

The bottom line is this, the government makes, no, steals trillions off of its citizens in the form of taxes and a lot of that has to do with the auto industry. The government spending my money on anything like this gets my vote. It's one of the few things they do with my money that I like as opposed to pissing it down some worthless poor persons throat only to have them buy rims and a car stereo with it.

HHR hit the turtle on the post with that post-turtle analogy.

The prez is like the head of a head of a large company. It's amazing that a guy whose resume consists of writing a book and chanting "we can" would ever be considered for the role, because his resume would be in the trash if he applied for the job. Maybe you'd forward it to the PR department, but no senior staff.

Then again there wasn't one candidate in either party whose resume I'd proudly consider, but at least everyone else had more crap on their resume.

I hate to see my cash flow either to Arabs, Russians or Venezuela. I know that we do have enough oil in our wilderness and continental shelf to last us for a long time and sell for profit to China. But I hate to see us drilling all over and creating landscape like in LA around oil wells so that few (or more then few) assholes will start driving even bigger Hummers, cause oil is plentiful.
300 millions for batteries will not buy even paper and ink to write government decrees on. Neither candidate can change anything in our democracy: it is in the hands of the congress.

I don't know about this battery ploy, but I am definatley in favor of drilling for oil on US soil or coast. It will buy the world some time for a better energy source and start to wein us from the Middle East.

At the same time I think the price per barrel is inflated, but I don't think the Obama or McCain camp can control it.

McCain is such a poser. And obama is a post turtle. What is a post turtle you ask? When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top. You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he is up there, and you just wonder what kind of a dumb @$$ put him up there.

I still say we utilize our greatest natural resource and drill a few oil wells into all the fatties we have in this country, pump the grease and oil clogging their veins, refine it, and flood the market with biocrude and drop the price.

Fatties are the most efficient producers of biofuels we have. You can probably get 3 barrels of crude out of their bodies for the cost of 14 boxes of twinkies (washed down with a Diet Coke, of course)

It would be America's greatest blessing to get a Presidential candidate or Congressional/Senate leadership candidate who knew JACK SHIT about science or technology. Trying to compete on batteries is foolish; that market is already being explored with extreme diligence in Asia, and (as noted) 300 million is hardly enough to start up R&D, much less build a factory. Anyone following the field knows that ultracapacitors have huge potential, and that's somewhere that US engineering and research could make a difference.

I thought the Iraq war was costing us nearly a trillion a year, not this measly billion stuff. I've seen figures that state the war in Iraq spends $280 million PER DAY.

How about drilling in Alaska, North Dakota, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Texas, and off the coasts. That will solve a lot of problems and give us 30 more years to develop an alternatve instead of trying to rush this and have a solution tommarrow. Sucks when the Chinese have permission from Cuba to drill right off the coast of Florida and take our oil, but the Donkey's in Congress won't let us do the same. As for the Iraq War, I don't care what some 2nd rate presidential canidate named after a dead dictator says about it, what CNN or the liberal media says about it, our Troops volunteered to be over there. No one forced them to go. Having 2 family members over there, yes I would like them home safe, but when they tell me that being over there is the right thing, then I believe them. There is a reason you can have your opinions, and thats because somewhere along the line someone died in a war protecting out way of life. Obama hasn't spent any time on ground in Iraq, he doesn't have a clue. The liberal media just says what they want you to hear and you buy in to it. How about a story on the electricity and clean water our troops are getting to villages out in the sticks that have never had it before. How about a story on that!

If someone could actually make us energy independent within 5 years, they wouldn't need a $50 Billion incentive to do it. The market value of whatever they invented would be worth hundreds of billions a year alone. Suffice to say, if it could be done, they'd already be doing it, government money or not.

Same with this $300M for batteries. $300M isn't going to make a company that had no interest in developing the technology suddenly decide to develop it.

All kidding aside, if I were Obama this would be my response:

How about we pull our troops out of Iraq, therewith save $150 billion a year, and offer 1/3 of that, or $50 Billion cash, to whichever company produces a workable alternative energy solution which allows us to become energy independent within 5 years.

For a large company, $300 mill isn't squat. $50 billion cash talks, plus we'd save money, save lives, create jobs at home, stop paying terrorists to kill us, and spur innovation.

It’s a good positive free market incentive approach.
Now contrast that with the “punish this and punish that” approach from the other side.
