Looks cool, but we'll never get a real Honda hot hatch in the US because American Honda Motor Co. sucks the big one.

I'm interesting in seeing the 3, but it's a different approach - It'll look as dull as the normal one, but has the potential to be a great sleeper. This is just outrageous and shouts its intentions rather than keeping them quiet.

One of the funnier things I've noticed is that the civic is much loved by pensioners in the UK because of its good residuals and reliability, so now you see a lot of 70+ year olds trundling around in the new ones at 20mph. It's like Buck Rogers meets Steptoe & Son :) Just goes to show what brand loyalty and perception can do once it gets a foothold in a demographic.

So what do you think, people?
Would you rather have this or a Mazdaspeed3?

Me personally, I like sedans, so the 07 civic sedan si is looking pretty nice.
Or a WRX.

GIven that it's a derivation of 'rice boy' (which assumes certain stereotypical things about anyone of eastern origin) I can't see how it can be considered anything but offensive. It may be different when applied to cars rather than people, but it's only one step removed from its less than pleasant roots.

"Import would be taking that same honda fit, and dropping the rear engine/transaxle from the NSX into where the back seat used to be."

That sounds like fun, I saw something like this. Check it out:

94 GSR mid-engine RWD H22A4 conversion

RICARDO HEAD...

'ricer' is a term thrown at the vehicle, not the person. There is a difference between rice and import. Rice is a fart can and 3 foot wing atop an otherwise bone stock honda Fit. Import would be taking that same honda fit, and dropping the rear engine/transaxle from the NSX into where the back seat used to be.

ricer is absolutely not a racial or derougatory (sp) term.

I liked the Civic Si, however it took Premium or plus gas (whatever octane it is).
I think they mean it outperforms because it's a hatchabck with the same engine as the coupe? Lighter shorter?

Personally I think the term "ricer" is about on (low) par with the word "beaner" ... which I hear in Boston is not a bad thing, but for those of us in the rest of the USA and particularly in the southwest is not a good comment and should be avoided by simply substituting a word that displays that you possess some form of intelligence, even if it is a deception.

To you that might be a small budget, but it might not be to everyone. In europe we pay twice as much for cars as you do - the last generation R would have cost you around $34k with a straight £ > $ exchange. Over here this car is priced about the same as a decent spec Mondeo, and far cheaper than a Golf GTI. It was amazing for the money and would tear strips off cars costing twice as much. Trust me on this, I know firsthand.

Besides, all this 'ricer ricer ricer blah blah blah wouldn't touch it' stuff is utter rubbish. Do you know how many tweaked 20 year old Truenos there are going sideways around the orbitals in Japan? Japanese tuners have always managed to make amazing machines out of whatever came to hand at the time and this dates back to way before certain people had ever decided that 'ricer' wasn't an offensive term and started to throw it around at every opportunity.

just tryin to stir the pot a little! did a good job too. FWD has advantages, like in the snow. I don't mind ricer cars, just not FWD ones, Evo's kick ass, 240's kick ass, s2000's kick ass, rx-7's kick ass, all rwd, with the exeption of the evo of course. "It may be exclusive, but it's still a honda" is just a play off "it may be used but it's still a honda", so its funny and you should laugh because honda will never make a exclusive anything. and no doubt, a si is sportier than a focus, but to me they're all commuter cars, a to b. And most people that buy fuel efficient vehicles buy them for that reason, not having to fill up as much. And i didn't say you can't have fun on a small budget, to me a small budget is 30k though, its not my fault so many people are broke, i used to be, and did something about it, if most ricers had more cash they wouldn't settle for a civic, they would tune a supra, or skyline, or an m3. and our dependency on foreign oil always has and always will exist. My 330 get 30mpg, so am I being selfish...no. and also clearify on the regular type moron thing, as compared to a irregular one, whats the difference?

And i didn’t say you can’t have fun on a small budget, to me a small budget is 30k though, its not my fault so many people are broke, i used to be, and did something about it, if most ricers had more cash they wouldn’t settle for a civic, they would tune a supra, or skyline, or an m3. and our dependency on foreign oil always has and always will exist. My 330 get 30mpg, so am I being selfish…no. and also clearify on the regular type moron thing, as compared to a irregular one, whats the difference?

The last generation civic R was a superb drive, very fizzy and sharp handling, and the engine was a screamer. It'd happily bounce both wheels up and down on the road before gripping and slamming your head into the headrest, and it cornered like it was on rails. The engine here might be the same, but it's been rejigged to widen the powerband so you no longer have to keep it boiling at over 6000 revs to get the peak power - bear in mind this is naturally aspirated too, so there's no lag or drag. I have no doubt this'll be amazing to drive, and if the interior is as space age and driver focused as the standard model it'l be a good place to spend an afternoon as the scenery melts :)

"Performance car, in the front wheel drive class, now there's an oxymoron." Now there's a quote from a regular type moron.

FWD may not offer the same superior driving experience as RWD, but believe it or not some FWD's are "sportier" than others. A Civic Si/Type R IS a performace car compared to Fit or Focus. God forbid anyone have a little fun on a small budget....

"It may be exclusive, but it's still a honda"

You got that right, the fact that it's a Honda will sell more units than anything about it being exclusive.

"if people pay attention to whats happening with oil prices, gas is predicted to be back down to $2.00 a gallon by November, if you can't afford that, get a better job."

There are concearns about fuel efficency other than just the price. So what if gas goes back to a buck and change? Some people consider emissions and our dependancy on foreign oil. Just because a natural resource is cheap does not mean we should burn it if we can afford it - thats as selfish as it gets.

Performance car, in the front wheel drive class, now there's an oxymoron. limiting production to 5000 so they'll sell like hotcakes? I can see the commercials for it now, "It may be exclusive, but it's still a honda". And yes it is awkward looking, to tall, and hatchback.
America is told that they hate this car and would never buy it. We are told this every year. Naturally, it's true because Honda Motor Company said so.

Actually I think it *looks* great. I'm not sure about the suspension but I'm definitely not happy with the engine. The Turbo K20 engine from the Acura RDX should be modified to see Type-R duty.

Problem is... we WANT a true Civic Type R, but probably not this one because it is still underpowered and too heavy to be a performance car in the FWD class.

I want one...I mean considering the current situation in US...small cars/hatchbacks are in right now. If we can get the Fit/Jazz over here why on earth can't we have the Type R. Honda better give this one some thought.

VW didnt plan to bring the R32 over here either. But VW enthusiasts sent VWoA a petition a few thousands names long (some even sent a down payment check) VWoA saw that the drivers want the car. so they sent 2500 over, sold them before they hit the ground so they sent another 2500. and because of that VW realized the US drivers want a serious performance hatch thats why we have a nearly identical GTI to Europe (not the bastard that is the MK4 GTI) and we got the Audi A3. Honda is missing out on alot of potential buys. a limited run of 5000 would sell like hot cakes. the added exclusivity would also be a big selling point.

with the massive failure of the last-gen SI here in the us, it is doubtful they would be able to make a business case to bring this here, even in limited qualtities, as the cost of certifying this vehicle alone (engine, crash test, etc.) would far outweigh the profits/sales.
