Production Audi R8 nearly identical to concept

03/28/2006, 5:26 PM

By admin

A near-production version of the Audi R8 was caught in testing by spy photographers working for Brenda Priddy and Company. The car appears almost identical to the Audi LeMans Concept on which it is based. However, some changes have been made to the front end of the car. Most notably, the headlights take on a slightly different shape. Moreover, Audi seems to have changed the placement of body panel seams on the front on the car. The R8 does not have a traditional hood and quarter panels, but rather a reverse-opening hood that wraps around the sides of the car. The new seams appear smoother and more purposeful than the previous iteration. The R8 is expected to make its official debut at the end of the year. It will be priced directly against the Porsche 911 and Aston Martin V8 Vantage.

improve on a concept?!?!? GASP! who ever heard of such a thing…

It is a beautiful car but does anyone else think that the front looks a little bulbous to the rest of the car?

LoL, what’s with the polka-dots? Looks nice though. Yeah, I did notice the Lambo wheels, but it’s had them since the first spy shots of it in the snow.

Dude.. Look at it. It is bascially a Gallardo with audi skin. Check the profile of the car, I can tell it is mid engine and probably AWD.

You said it #6. You don’t even have to look at the profile, look at the rear.

Looks really nice, it will reportadely come with the same 420 Horsepower engine as the RS4 has now. With lower weight, it will probably have a 0-60 time of around 4 seconds and quite possible lower. The RS4, that is much heavier can do 0-62 (0-100 kph)in 4.4.

That car is sweet! Just look at these comments left by LLN readers – NO car gets praise like this unless it truly hits the marque(npi)!

Cool design but it looks quite Porsche with Gallardo underpinnings. It is nice to see that the production version will mimick the concept so closely though.

It looks like a really slick TT, mixed with porsche and lambo, as stated before.

It is a gallardo with audi skin! same engine. the awd will be audi’s quattro though. this should also be more of an “every day” driver and probably less money and faster…hmmm
