I love this idea, finally, a diesel-hybrid. Whichever company it comes from first, once it hits the streets everyone will want one and all (most at least) of the car companies will finally make it happen. Even though diesel fuel is higher, in the US at least, the added mileage will more than make up for it. Bring it on France / US / Germany / Japan / China / S-Korea / Austrailia / etc...

You know what? Get over it. If you want to discuss the merits of French supremacy, go to a french political site.

Sure, Formula 1 is a great place to showcase the reliability of a run-of-the-mill Renault. Just ask Ferrari if that's helped their reliabilty.

Domination of any race series doesn't necessarily equate directly to how great their products are. Just look at the history of some dominant cars of the past in different series'. Lancia (and Renault, for a while) was dominant in rallys, but just look around to see how many Lancia Deltas or Renault A110's are around. Even now, you see some amazing race cars (Maserati MC12 to name one) running in the FIA GT series that are made by not the most trustworthy of car manufacturers.

I think you just need to buy a sense of humor, or just stay out of the conversation.

Borat, thanks for one intelligent comment in this thread. And I agree with you to a certain point.
Mitterrand the French president before Chirac did way more harm to the relationship between France and the US than Chirac himself. He is the one who prohibited the French airspace to the American bomber (Chirac wasn't president yet), he is the one to have relationship with some shady Africans leaders. However Chirac did push for the participation of France in the first Gulf war in 91 against Mitterrand. Chirac won and became President later. He also was the first to send special forces to Afghanistan after 9/11 (first country with the US). But I agree that he did push for French independence way too much despite good relation with the US.
BTW France never sold nuclear technology to Iran (the Russians did), France doesn't and didn't have diplomatic relationship with Iran even longer than the US (since 79, after the Iran revolution).
I travel a lot to Europe for my job and believe me, French and German science and technology are more advanced than the UK.

Flatred, you are right. I was making fan of French in majority of my posts here, however, their former leadership sort of begged it. I have a lot of respect for Nicolas Sarkozy, but Chirac spend his entire life building walls between our countries and cultures.
From selling nuclear technology to such countries as Iraq (under Hussein) and Iran; disallowing air space during retaliation for bombing for Libyan reid, ridicule of US during his whole career, courting dictators and tyrants.
Sarkozy is making nice strides in repairing what was done for many years, but adversary posturing for over 20-30 years created enough antipathy that is hard to overcome.
As far as French cars, they are really great in Europe. We have no access to them due to inability of French auto industry to build cars for US market. And you are right, out of all EU countries France is only second to UK in science and technology advances.

Sorry jayjc08, this is not humor. If I say your mother smells like cheese below the belt, does it still sounds like humor? I don't think so. It's offensive.
It is politically correct to bash the French right now and just good fun, so was bashing the Jews before WW2 and the blacks in the 20th century, it's called racism in my book and plain scary...
Like I say ignorance...

A lot of ignorant trolls on this site. I guess your are 15 or something.
Renault has been a major player in F1 for decades, Peugeot and Citroen have been dominating WRC for years too. Citroen has so much innovative patents it would make your head spin, like first front wheel drive car, first hydraulic suspension etc. and sakio327 for your information the 3 French manufacturers are not near the trouble the big 3 are in right now. Once again an ignorant comment. Easy to judge when you don't know anything.
Renault has the fastest FWD car at the Nurburing (Megane R26R).
Besides they build some of the fastest train (Alstom) and the best business jets (Dassault Falcons) in the world. And they build the most advance Nuclear plant. We are still stuck with the polluting coal.

JC how do you know what's below the Frenchies belt, you suck them as a hobby?
You guys have to pull your head out of your asses, you are embarrassing for the rest of us in America.

I'm surprised the French haven't introduced a vehicle that runs on smelly cheese. Either the edible variety or what's found below their belt.
