As part of a major expansion plan, Land Rover and Jaguar hope to launch approximately forty new models and variants of existing models over the next five years.

Rumors circulating around the European auto industry indicate that one of them is likely to be a performance-oriented version of the popular Range Rover Evoque.

Holland's Autoblog.nl reports that the hot-rodded Evoque will be dubbed simply Evoque R. It will trade its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine for a Jaguar-sourced supercharged V6 with a displacement of 3.0 liters.

For use in the Evoque the all-aluminum V6 mill is expected to churn out anywhere between 340 and 360 horsepower and generate approximately 330 lb-ft. of torque. The Evoque is currently rated at 240 horsepower so a 100-horsepower bump will make a very noticeable difference.

The 3.0-liter six-cylinder will likely be bolted to an eight-speed ZF transmission, a unit that is currently found in the Jaguar lineup.

With a sportier engine comes a sportier handling, and Land Rover engineers will undoubtedly make several tweaks to the chassis, the suspension, the brakes and the steering. The SUV will also boast more aggressive styling and a lower ride height.

While Land Rover has not confirmed this, sources indicate that both two- and four-door variants of the Evoque R will be offered.

The performance-oriented Evoque's launch is at least a year and a half away.
