Real deal: 2009 Cadillac CTS-V spied

10/17/2006, 4:52 PM

By admin

Although a mule for Cadillac’s 2009 CTS-V was photographed a couple weeks ago, it turns out that it didn’t really reveal the true face of Caddy’s M3/M5 fighter.

These latest shots of a CTS-V prototype were taken in Germany, at a gas station near the famous Nürburgring, and this one’s the full-on real deal. This test car has a new grille design, and a massive lower air-intake, both sporting a sporty mesh finish in the familiar V-spec tradition. The shape of the lower intake gets wider toward the bottom, where it joins a bold lip that juts out around the bottom of the front fascia. The fog lights and brake cooling ducts flank the lower intake, giving this CTS-V a beefiness missing from those prior prototypes (which were still fronting the same standard grille and front bumper design first seen last April).

We’re expecting to receive more photos of the CTS-V on the Nürburgring itself tomorrow. Stay tuned… Gallery after the jump…

If you all will recall there were several ’spy’ shots of a current CTS with obscenely oversized wheels and fender flares everyone was calling a Super-V. Having seen how far along this car is I suspect that vehcile was nothing more than a test mule for the drivetrain in this car as it wasn’t ready, at that time, to accept it. I’m gonna bet’cha there won’t be a ‘Super-V’ based on the current CTS-V.

S-60… look again.. it’s not the same pics. This vehicle displays a completely new, V-like, front facia. This is a different car from the ones seen previously.

That’s some really good camo. I’ve seen the spy shots of the starndard cts and it looks great. This is going to be a hot car.

Ohhh – The black on white camo is sooo much better than that old white on black camo…

this looks like the current-gen CTS-V. It woludnt make sense for them to slap the suggestive mesh grille onto it if everything else is camoed to **** anyway.

bepsf: Who said this camo was BETTER than the camo in the other spy shots? I’m just curious.

Looks pretty badass, actually. since it’s a badass car in the present generation, one can only imagine how it’ll be with a second generation. GM might be having problems, but GM Performance puts out some stout cars, and this won’t be an exception.

I would rather have seen GM perfect the flaws of the current model than try to make an all new one.

Car and Driver magazine had some seroius issues with drivetrain durablity and sqeaks and rattles.

Also, are they taking the Corvette motor out and putting some DOHC Northstar in it? Too bad. The Vette motor is where its at.

If you stare at the front end long enough a 3-D image of Bob Lutz appears out of the camo pattern.

I wonder how many people there were, in about 1970/71/72, who talked about how great the next generations of cars would be?

It’ll have its ten minutes of fame and then be relegated to the rental fleets and big discounts. They price the foolish things for the same if not more than a comparable BMW, Audi or Benz.

Truth is, people would rather have the real thing than some pretender.
