Less than two months after Toyota announced that 735,000 Corolla, Matrix and RAV4 models would be fixed through an ‘extend warranty’ the automaker is now announcing a full safety recall for 1.13 million Corolla and Matrix cars.

The recall affects model year 2005-08 Corolla and Matrix models with the1ZZ-FE 1.8-liter engine, and stems from an issue with a faulty ECM board which can suffer from cracking solder points or on the electronic component used to protect circuits against excessive voltage.

Toyota says that if the cracking occurs there may be a Check Engine Light (CEL), or drivers may experience hard shifting, unexpected engine stops while driving or the engine may fail to start in the first place.

To date, Toyota has had three accidents and one injury related to this issue reported.
