Despite several interested parties, receivers for Saab say they haven’t received a single formal bid for the bankrupt automaker.
Over the past week several different parties have expressed interest in purchasing Saab – including China’s Youngman and Turkish private-equity firm Brightwell Holdings BV – but no formal offers have been tendered, the automaker’s receivers have revealed.
“We have had discussions with a number of interested parties. Some of them are interested in the factory as a whole and some of them are interested in parts of it,” Hans Bergvist, one of the receivers, told Reuters.
In addition to Youngman and Brightwell, Indian truck maker Mahindra and Mahindra has been rumored to be interested in the purchase of Saab. Bergvist declined to identify any interested parties.
Saab filed for bankruptcy in December after it failed to secure outside financing. The cash-strapped automaker hasn’t produced a vehicle at its main Trollhattan plant since April.
If Saab were to receive a formal offer, it would still need the approval of General Motors and the European Investment Bank.
