Although there aren’t any production plans for Renault’s DeZir concept car, the vehicle is said to represent the French automaker’s future design direction.
Penned under the leadership of Renault design director Laurens van den Acker, the DeZir concept features Renault’s new ‘Drive the Change’ design language. The design language is inspired by three keywords — ‘simple’, ‘sensuous’ and ‘warm’.
“DeZir is a statement of our new formal design language which conveys notions such as movement, sensuality and emotion through ideal proportions, in much the same way as an object whose forms have been honed by nature. The result is a warm, stimulating design that says ‘Renault’,” said Axel Breun, Renault’s Director of Concept Car and Show Car Design.
The DeZir features an all-electric powertrain, backed by a vertically-mounted 24kW lithium-ion battery pack. The DeZir can be fully charged in eight hours on a standard outlet, with a quick charge system allowing for an 80 percent charge in just 20 minutes. Saving even more time, the DeZir is also equipped with Renault’s Quick Drop battery swapping technology.
In order to ensure maximum performance and efficiency, the DeZir’s body is made from lightweight Kevlar, resulting in a curb weight of just 1,830 lbs. The svelte weight allows the DeZir’s 150 horsepower electric motor to propel the concept from 0-62 in just 5 seconds, while allowing for a 100 mile cruising range.
