Leaked images preview Renault Megane three-door

09/23/2008, 5:51 PM

By Drew Johnson

Following on the heels of the first official images of the five-door Renault Megane, images of the three-door version have been leaked via the European patents office. Previewed by the Megane concept that debuted at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, the new Megane has been one of the most anticipated new models, and has even been at the center of a legal battle.

The current Megane has been on the market relatively unchanged for the last six years, but it looks as though the new car will be more than worth the long wait. Although the styling of the production Megane is much tamer than its show car counterpart – as expected – it’s still a very good looking car with a sporty flare. In profile, the Megane’s sloping roofline gives it an almost coupe-like silhouette, accentuated by the three-door model.

Underhood, the Megane will offer a range of gas engines pumping out between 100 and 180 horsepower, while diesel powerplants will offer buyers between 85 to 150 horsepower. All engines will be mated to either five or six-speed transmissions, available in both manual and automatic configurations.

Inside, the Megane sports an up-scale look, complete with an available satellite navigation system and analog/digital gauge cluster.

The Megane will be available in six different body styles by 2010, which will likely include a sedan, traditional wagon and possibly even a hardtop convertible.

The new Megane is slated to hit the European market this November. And, as always, make sure to check back for live coverage from the Paris show floor.

@zeeck: You got that right! :) )
Anyway, the 2 door looks better than the 4 door in my opinion. I’m waiting to see the RS version. Lately, Renault has been churning out only top notch hot hatches! Go Renault!
To my fellows on the other side of the ocean: I can only hope you get this over there! The US deserves some european competition on Golf’s market segment! ;)
