Because the Nepta concept could have been a Ford Thunderbird. The exterior profile of the concept car looks eerily similar to the doomed Thunderbird.

If Ford made a Thunderbird like this maybe it will still sell. Thunderbird was retro gone wrong. Too many misses like the Thunderbird caused Ford’s problems nowadays.

I like some of the stylistic elements to the car. I like the shape of the rear lights. I also think the cockpit is elegant and minimal. However that rear overhang isn’t very attractive.

…I’m not a professor/architect with a degree in advanced design or whatever, but I like it. I like the fact that Renault still try to push the limits, within esthetic limits, (even though sales are dropping in Europe). I like the absence of too many design tricks, a fact that makes this car look sort of classic from day one ( yeah, quite Thunderbird meets Saturn Sky-ish).

From my point of view there’s no argument: This is a good looking car. I like it. Not too fond of the interior, though. And the doors seem a bit overdone, but the overall layout of this car has much more heart, where e.g AUDI is more brains. If you like beer, you buy beer. If you like redwine, you buy redwine.

And it’ll never go into production

Personally it doesn’t really do anything for me. Other than the doors the vehicle is boring, dare I say more boring than the Camry. The Camry at least has some lines to look at and some ‘style’….however good/bad it may be. This is just a bar of melted soap with room for four.

Chimichanga… not sure how/what I did to piss you off so much, by your comments I am assuming you are the one who told us a few days ago that because you design buildings you are more qualified than any of us to comment on automotive design, which is quite the fallacy.

Now, I did not comment on any aspect of the design, good or bad. I simply stated the similarity of this concept in profile to that of the recently departed Ford Thunderbird, which is an accurate assessment. I also see hints of Saturn Sky/Opel GT in the various ‘details’ such as the headlight and taillight treatment (at certain angles)

I might not be an ‘archtect’ making me qualified in your eyes to comment on automotive design, but I do have eyes… which is qualification enough.

what does 1952 MG TD know about design. Did he study for years to be a designer of cars, fashion or products or study even longer to be an architect? I doubt it, so he is allowed an opinion on the look of cars and whether he likes them or not but I don’t think he/she is qualified to say whether they are good or not.

The graphics of this renault are a little bland but there is excellent detailing on this car which is a shame as it will get lost in the fact that there was no overall concept for this car. I think the look is intended to show off Renaults new design language which will preview on the next laguna, Renault wants to be seen as an haute Couture car manufacturer and with Patrick Le Quement at the helm they can’t go far wrong.

Awesome house as well

One thing I ave noticed is that AMericans like the big picture the grand scheme the showy exhibition, but are very poor at details, I guess it comes from having so much space to fill. You will find that American cars with the best detailing were probably designed by Europeans and why the detailing on recent BMWs has been so poor.

Absolutely gorgeous. Nice to see Renault and Citroen pushing the design envelop with this and the C-Metisse. The Paris Auto Show will definitely be inspiring. Now if some of these beautiful design cues rub off on Detroit, maybe the GM and Ford will could save whats left of them. Design sells.

Nope, 1952 MG TD is right. Ford meets Saturn. Not a good combo. They need to look at the Citroen prototype. Not all of it is my cup of tea, but it does have a good aggressive look. This Renault is very bland. Where’s Emeril when you need him. Bam!

Really- a nice, clean concept, inside AND out. A little longish in the tail, but who cares? Stylish. If it was a Chrysler, I could almost believe it’d make production. I ownder what the chances are that Renault builds it?
